One of the biggest hurdles for me was finding the right amount of time for my workouts. In an ideal world, I could go workout and do my specified plan for my desired amount of time. After that, I would love to go for a walk or take a shower or even just sit around and relax.
Let me be clear—> this is not reality for MOST (if not all?) moms. Once I let go of that ‘all or nothing’ mindset, I started to be easier on myself and just doing what I can, when I can.
On a recent trip to the park, I did some pull ups on the monkey bars. I did step ups on the bench. I ran around and chased my kids. It was definitely a workout! Was it my IDEAL workout? No.
I have learned to adapt and let go of “perfection”.
I hate to hear friends say “I don’t have time” and then they go on to tell me about the latest on their favorite TV shows. You CAN find short windows of time in your day to blast out some exercise. I like to come up with short, yet intense, workouts that can be done in 15 minutes. Last week I did 20 rounds of kettlebell swings—30 seconds of work, followed by 20 seconds of rest. I didn’t keep count, but I imagine I did about 250 swings in that short amount of time. Not too shabby for a quick workout, huh?
Time to lose the excuses gang. Find the time. Get creative. Get it done.
