Don’t forget to set your Tivo or DVR to record The Biggest Loser tonight! This is one of my favorite shows that I do not miss each week. I make it a workout opportunity by recording it and then watching it from the comfort of my treadmill. I cannot watch it in good conscience from the comfort of my sofa when I see these 200 lbs (and more!) men and women sweating it out each week.
The Washington Post has a great article in today’s paper about the show and some of the previous contestants. I’m a little surprised that they admit the whole weigh-in segment is tweaked for viewer suspense (although not surprised at all), but like the fact that the contestants really don’t know how much they have lost until that part is actually filmed. There is no acting going on, they really are shocked as much as we are!
I also like that a former contestant tells how they were tempted to skip meals to drop weight fast but soon learned that actually hindered their weight loss. This is such an important fact that most people tend to overlook.
If you starve yourself, your body is going to hold on to whatever fat you have because it thinks you are not going to feed it anymore!
Sure, you will lose some weight initially and it might be a dramatic amount but over time you cannot sustain this lifestyle. It is much better to eat smaller (healthy) meals throughout the day and keep that metabolism going.
Don’t forget to tune in tonight!.
