Sometimes to achieve a huge goal, you need to set small goals.
I am watching him and thinking “Wow, what a positive attitude!” Here is this man who weighs about 300 pounds. All week long he has been working out for hours a day and eating far less than his body would like (according to this article, the men are allowed between 1700-2000 calories per day). After all of his sweat equity, he only managed to lose 3 pounds. (compared to others loss of 10+ pounds).
Instead of dwelling on what might be considered a disappointment–and the show sets up that way with sad music when his weight is revealed—he goes on to explain that it is still pounds lost and that he will continue to work hard towards his ultimate goal by setting smaller goals along the way. Next up for him, he says, is to hit 250 pounds.
My hat goes off to him. He has a positive attitude and is keeping his focus. Sometimes we are so focused on the big goal that we forget to celebrate the little ones along the way.
- Think about what your “huge” goal is?
- Can you break that down into smaller goals that you can work toward?
- I encourage you to write them down so that you can document and celebrate your successes!
- Here are my “small” goals for the next month:
- lose 5 pounds
- get back into running by doing a 5k race
- eat at least one serving of vegetables per day. (I am not a fan of veggies!)
Ok, what are yours?
Let’s revisit these next month and see how we all did!
