Today’s fit mommy is ME! I figured after featuring all these fabulous fit moms, I would jump in on the fun! 🙂
Q: How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
I have 4 boys—ages 7,6, 3, and 2. There is never a dull nor quiet moment in my house.
Q: Have you always been fit? What inspired you to live a fit lifestyle?
No, I pretty much hated all forms of exercise for most of my life! I decided to lose some weight for my honeymoon about 15 years ago and it turns out I found my passion. I decided to get my NASM certification and opened my own personal training business back in 2002. I closed my business after I had my second baby and this blog was born!
Q: What advice do you have for moms who claim they don’t have time for exercise?
Everyone has the same amount of time in their day, it is all about what is a priority for you. Let go of the all or nothing concept and just do SOMETHING. 20 minutes of weights or high intensity cardio can go a long, long way! And somedays, you are not going to want to do anything and that’s ok too. (just make sure they don’t outweigh the active days!
Some people can get up and workout at 4am, others do it late at night. I prefer to squeeze it in during my little ones nap times. Whatever works for YOU. If you have time for Facebook, you have time for a workout!
Q: How have your workouts changed since having a baby?
I used to spend hours at the gym teaching classes and then I went for 8-10 mile runs. Now that I’m old, I have a lot of nagging injuries that were a result of this overexercising! 🙁 Having babies taught me to workout smarter, not harder! I prefer short intense workouts that give me more bang for my buck.
Q: Are you more of a cardio mommy or strength training mommy?
These days I focus more on heavy weights with cardio intervals mixed in for fun. I still need to go running for my sanity. It helps me sort out “issues” in my head.
Q: Random question: what is your go-to snack food?
Definitely Justin’s chocolate almond butter. I usually buy the single serving packets so I won’t eat the entire jar!
