I’ve gotten the flyers in the mail before about Team in Training events but honestly I never really paid much attention to them. A few weeks ago I got an email from them asking if I would help promote their training program to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)–which is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I haven’t talked much about it here on my blog, but my dad has a rare form of blood cancer, so this email hit home with me. He was diagnosed several years ago and takes many medications to keep it under control, but the truth is there is no cure for him.
LLS is the leading global non-profit organization dedicated to curing blood cancers and has invested nearly one billion dollars since 1954. In 1964, a child’s chance of surviving acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, was 3%. Today, about 90% of children will survive.
That is awesome, however let’s see if we can push that number closer to 100%!!
To do so, research like this MUST continue and The Team in Training program (TNT) is dedicated to it’s cause.
TNT allows you to participate in awesome events all while raising money for an AWESOME cause. They provide you with a support group and coaches along the way to help you reach your goal. You can pick from marathons, half marathons, hiking adventures, obstacle races, and even century rides.
The Disney marathons are TNT events and I think I am definitely going to have to sign up! Many people often tell me they have no idea how to train or prepare for a marathon well HERE YOU GO! TNT offers 4-5 months of personalized training in exchange for raising funds. You will cross that finish line with a giant smile on your face knowing that you made a difference!!
Just look at this picture of a participant crossing the finish line with a leukemia survivor!
