My gym has become so crowded that I now have to arrive 30 minutes early in order to secure a bike for spin class. On Tuesdays and Thursday mornings, I’d have to get there 90 minutes early to get a spot in the popular Body Pump class. (which I just cannot do.) It’s insane really–it’s hard enough to fit in time for a workout but now I have to schedule in time to WAIT for my … [Read more...] about Lifetime Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness–where are you?

Food pushers, couch potatoes, and more
Charlotte had a great post this week about sabotage and the various reasons why we might not be supportive to friends & family in their efforts to live a fit lifestyle. This post really hit home with me as I feel like there are several saboteurs in my life. (Many of them are probably reading this blog, so please leave me a comment to say “hi” if you recognize yourself, … [Read more...] about Food pushers, couch potatoes, and more
Kind of like a twinkie, but not really
I received a box of Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cakes in the mail the other day, and I must say they are sinfully delicious. It has been years since I have eaten a Hostess Twinkie, but if my memory serves me correctly, these taste just the same. The good news? Only 100 calories per snack cake. (If you are following the Weight Watchers program, they are only 1 POINT® per … [Read more...] about Kind of like a twinkie, but not really
The Upset Point
This morning my scale told me I lost 3 pounds. I told it to shut up. I mean, it’s not as if it hasn’t told me the same thing before. It said I lost 3 pounds last week, and that I had gained the 3 pounds back, then lost and gained the same damn 3 pounds again — all in one week. That’s a total of 2 losses, 2 gains, all of the same 3 pounds. And I’m beginning to think it is the … [Read more...] about The Upset Point

Warning: This post contains some material originally published back when Cranky Fitness had about 4 readers. Crabby hereby apologizes to those 4 readers. But since this post is about balance, a subject Crabby still … [Read more...] about Why Are You Running So Fast?
Why you need great (not just good) running shoes
The first thing I look at when a client tells me that running hurts their shins or knees is their shoes. How old are the shoes? Are they really running shoes? How did they pick the pair they are wearing? Usually they are wearing some 10 year old Reebok sneaker that hasn’t seen the light of day in years. Why is it that we can spend hundreds of dollars on our hair, make-up, … [Read more...] about Why you need great (not just good) running shoes
Pregnancy and Tae Bo: keep on kicking!
It is time for another installment of “One Fit Mommy”! Each week I scour the blogosphere to find other fit moms who inspire me to fitness. Our mommy this week is Leah, who created the fantastic fitness community for moms over at BookieBoo. Leah is a busy mom with one toddler boy and another bundle due this winter. She is a weight loss success story; a few years ago Leah lost … [Read more...] about Pregnancy and Tae Bo: keep on kicking!
Canned food too?
What started out as a simple post about my water bottle has morphed into so much more! There is so much information out there about the safety of BPA in plastics and it all has me very worried, especially as a mom with kids who drink from plastic sippy cups all day long. Even more alarming is that more BPA is likely to be released from canned foods than plastic water … [Read more...] about Canned food too?
Grip the Kettlebell Revolution with Sarah Lurie and Iron Core Fitness
This weekend I was excited to try out my new kettlebell and DVD “Kettlebells the Iron Core Way”, courtesy of GoFit.net.
