Meeting other fit moms always inspires me. I love to hear about how others fit in the time and what has (and has not) worked for them. Therefore I am starting a new series called “One Fit Mommy”, where I will introduce you to other fit mommies around the globe. Today’s “One Fit Mommy” is Carla, which many of us know as MizFit. She is a former personal trainer, now a writer … [Read more...] about One Fit Mommy: Carla (aka MizFit)
Creating my own Crossfit style workouts
I’ve always wanted to belong to a Crossfit “box” but unfortunately there are none in my area. So each day I try to create my own WOD and usually it involves a child or two. (or 4!) My workout is usually done at the park and looks something like this: While at the park, I try and do as many burpees, frog jumps, walking lunges, squats, bench jumps, pushups and laps around … [Read more...] about Creating my own Crossfit style workouts

Lifetime Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness–where are you?
My gym has become so crowded that I now have to arrive 30 minutes early in order to secure a bike for spin class. On Tuesdays and Thursday mornings, I’d have to get there 90 minutes early to get a spot in the popular Body Pump class. (which I just cannot do.) It’s insane really–it’s hard enough to fit in time for a workout but now I have to schedule in time to WAIT for my … [Read more...] about Lifetime Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness–where are you?

Food pushers, couch potatoes, and more
Charlotte had a great post this week about sabotage and the various reasons why we might not be supportive to friends & family in their efforts to live a fit lifestyle. This post really hit home with me as I feel like there are several saboteurs in my life. (Many of them are probably reading this blog, so please leave me a comment to say “hi” if you recognize yourself, … [Read more...] about Food pushers, couch potatoes, and more
Kind of like a twinkie, but not really
I received a box of Weight Watchers Golden Sponge Cakes in the mail the other day, and I must say they are sinfully delicious. It has been years since I have eaten a Hostess Twinkie, but if my memory serves me correctly, these taste just the same. The good news? Only 100 calories per snack cake. (If you are following the Weight Watchers program, they are only 1 POINT® per … [Read more...] about Kind of like a twinkie, but not really
The Upset Point
This morning my scale told me I lost 3 pounds. I told it to shut up. I mean, it’s not as if it hasn’t told me the same thing before. It said I lost 3 pounds last week, and that I had gained the 3 pounds back, then lost and gained the same damn 3 pounds again — all in one week. That’s a total of 2 losses, 2 gains, all of the same 3 pounds. And I’m beginning to think it is the … [Read more...] about The Upset Point
Why Are You Running So Fast?
Today’s guest post is courtesy of Crabby McSlacker, who blogs over at Cranky Fitness, a blog that is partly about Health and Fitness but mostly about whining. Warning: This post contains some material originally published back when Cranky Fitness had about 4 readers. Crabby hereby apologizes to those 4 readers. But since this post is about balance, a subject Crabby still … [Read more...] about Why Are You Running So Fast?
Why you need great (not just good) running shoes
The first thing I look at when a client tells me that running hurts their shins or knees is their shoes. How old are the shoes? Are they really running shoes? How did they pick the pair they are wearing? Usually they are wearing some 10 year old Reebok sneaker that hasn’t seen the light of day in years. Why is it that we can spend hundreds of dollars on our hair, make-up, … [Read more...] about Why you need great (not just good) running shoes
