7 reasons why every mom should practice martial arts

November 10, 2016 by workoutmommy

I recently joined a boxing gym and can tell you that everything in this guest post is SPOT ON!!

mom and son fitness

As a mom, having to take care of your kids on a 24/7-hour basis already requires a lot of energy and time. Getting your hair done or doing sports does not seem to be part of the picture. Well…not anymore! Mommies need some time for themselves, including workout time: yoga, fitness, running or whatever makes you feel happy. What about martial arts classes? Have you given some thoughts about it? Martial arts can benefit moms, and these are the reasons why:

They are empowering

Even if martial arts are not about violence, delivering a solid kick will make you realize that you can fight if you need to. In our world where, unfortunately, women are still treated like the weaker sex, it feels great to know that you can be just as tough as men…and it’s even more awesome when you have the power to practice your kicks on a regular basis.

They reduces stress

As a mom, you know that there are days worse than others, days when you have to chase around your kid after eight hard hours spent in an office. Because martial arts are known to calm people down, they teach moms to take a breath and remain calmer in difficult situations. Martial arts will definitely help you reach a positive attitude by reducing your stress and lowering your tension levels. The great vibes will impact the relationship you have with your little ones. Join a martial arts school, and you can say bye bye to explosions and aggressiveness!boxing

They improve reflexes

Moms are already superwomen, and martial arts allow them to develop even more superpowers.  With the practice of martial arts, reflexes and reaction times improve. Martial arts help people to be more aler,t so moms will become very handy in daily situations with or without their kids.

They boost self-confidence

The birth is usually followed by a period of time in which moms feel that their bodies are not the same anymore. And it takes some time to accept that they have changed. Martial arts are the perfect solution to get some self-esteem back because they spread good values and positive encouragements. Martial arts are about setting goals and every time you will reach them, you will realize that it is not an impossible mission to make them happen. You will feel more comfortable in other situations then, knowing that you can eventually achieve your goals, such as making your little ones healthy and happy.

They teach you to love your body for what it can do

…And not for what it can look! Unlike so many workout programs focusing on getting bodies ready for the summer, martial arts teach you how to develop new skills and reach new levels. Success is determined by your skills rather than your appearance. If martial arts will get you fit, you will realize that belt promotions are even more satisfying than a slimmer waistline.

They get you fit

Practicing frequently any martial art will help your cardio, strength and endurance. Besides, in order to feel great, you’ll need to drink lots of water and eat healthy food. The results? You are guaranteed to slim down, gain muscle and have healthier skin. You might look like the fit moms you come across on Instagram, or you might not, but in the end, giving kicks and punches will work better for you than any diet program or anti-aging product.

They make you feel like a badass

Even if recent years have seen the rise of women practicing martial arts, there is still a long way to go. Knowing that you are just a handful of women practicing martial arts is supposed to make you feel special. You want to do something different than most moms, don’t do? There is nothing wrong with being like ‘most moms’ – since they are all great – but standing out from the crowd is also very cool.

Being a mom is not an easy task and martial arts will definitely help you survive after-birth and daily situations. Body, mind, and confidence; with martial arts, every mom will multiply by ten her supermom powers!
