Sharon Mann is one fit mommy!

June 2, 2010 by workoutmommy

It is time for another installment of “One Fit Mommy”! As I surf around the blogosphere, I come across fit moms (and dads too!) who inspire me to fitness. From there, I hunt them down and force them to tell me their secrets, which I then share with you!

Today’s fit mommy is Sharon Mann. Back before I had kids, I used to turn on Fit TV and sweat with Sharon. I had a girl crush on her. 🙂

I then moved, had some kids and forgot all about Fit TV until a few months ago when I rediscovered Sharon. When I read that she also has 3 little boys I just knew that I had to feature her as “One Fit Mommy”! She makes the time to get it done and never fails to deliver an awesome workout!

Please read on for more about Sharon and why she is definitely “One Fit Mommy” and enter to win her Body Sculpting DVD !

Q: What inspired you to live a fit lifestyle?

I was very active as a child ! I played baseball , on the track team in school , enjoyed swimming , skating and gymnastics . I have two older brothers who I always played sports with and we would run at our local track – racing each other !! I started training for competitive aerobics when I was 18 and really got the bug for training hard at that point .

Q: What advice do you have for moms who claim they don’t have time for exercise?

Make it a priority … like brushing your teeth. Set  time aside everyday that includes physical activity – this could be with the kids or on your own . If mornings work the best for you – do it then / include another mom or a group of moms . Plan get togethers around working out – game of family soccer ….. then dinner. If your kids are small , in a snuggly and go for a hike . When my kids were small , I would squeeze exercise in any chance I could – running our stairs at home , core work on a stability ball while they played – push ups anytime / anywhere !! I did many hours of running with them sleeping in the jogger ( nap time for them )

Q: Did you have to change your training/workouts once you became a mom?
I became very good at time management and my workouts became more intense because I realized I didn’t have as much time. But I also have great opportunities to do active stuff with the family that we all love .

Q: What is your favorite exercise and why?
This changes all the time ! I just got a new bike …… so I absolutely loving being on the road riding , fresh air, big hills and spending time with my family. I teach 8 classes a week ( group exercise ) and I’m having tons of fun in my athletic core class – that’s a combination of kickboxing / weight training / athletic drills – intervals and core work .

Q: Do you have any mental tricks that you use when you just don’t feel like working out?

Good question! I have several tricks – playing my favorite music usually gets me in the mood for a good workout, call one of my keen workout friends, download some new music for class is a good one. If all fails – a shot of espresso ……. and I just do it !!

Q: What is your favorite snack food?

I love anything that gives me energy ….. so I tend to snack on goji berries and dark chocolate chips . I make this really great energy bar with oats / seeds / wheat germ / dried fruit and almonds that is great for kids too . I love foods that make me feel good ! protein shake – using Vega protein / frozen berries and yogurt – yum !!

Thank you Sharon for being an inspiration to all!

My 11-month-old son, Emerson, inspires me to make fitness a priority. I want to have the stamina to keep up and enjoy being with him, as well as be a good example for him.

I am inspired by anyone who struggles, but still succeeds in the long run. Those who have it easy I cannot relate to. However, those have have initial failures, but go on to do great things – those are the people who amaze and inspire me to keep going. They didn’t give up after a fall. They got right back on the horse and kept riding.

I’m inspired by two people… a lady that runs my bootcamp. I want to live like her where we eat real food and work hard for a wonderful life….

The other is my cousin who inspires me to challenge my eating choices. She has a son that is autistic and they’ve had to make some changes that are truely inspirational. She just made me dinner of roasted veggies over polenta and a to-die-for smoothy.

Diabetes runs in my family — my grandpa died from complications, my grandma has it, and now my dad. I stay fit to avoid getting diabetes. I have also found a great blog (CutieBootyCakes) that keeps me going!

My Dr. inspired me to get back into exercise because she told me that my cholesterol is 261 and when I saw my weight on the scale at my appointment in April, I about cried. I have to get back into it. I was in great shape until about age 27. I got busy with my 3 boys and my health took a back seat to them and I am paying for it now. HELP!

I’m inspired by my dad who never exercised at all until he turned 40, then never stopped. My friends all think he’s way younger than his actual age!

I most inspired by you. Your being able to write and interview so many Fit Moms and have time to take care of your 3 boys. I used to watch Sharon Mann also when she was on free TV. I taped some of her shows and still use them.

My sister motivates me to exercise. I think it’s that whole sibling rivalry thing! (We just started a running blog together: http://inthezonesisters.blogspot.com/)

Sharon Mann is one Ka-RAZY energetic woman. I remember when I first started my journey, I couldn’t keep up! But her energy is contagious. She makes you want to stick with her. Even my husband stops what he’s doing just to commentate on her energetic routines.

I am so lucky to have lots of inspiration! My two girls (3 and 4 yrs old) are so active- I NEED to be in shape to keep up with them:). Most of my friends are amazing fit and active moms who make fitness a priority in their lives. My husband is also very busy playing basketball almost everyday and then participates in two lacrosse leagues during the week. (wish I saw him more – but getting out to exercise makes him a better dad and husband;)).

My 5 children & their future children inspire me! I grew up with ‘couch potato’ parents, and now, unfortunately, they are still young (67), but because of lifestyle choices, have had various health problems. I try to inspire & encourage my children to be fit & active because obesity & diabetes is out of control in our society -because of eating foods that lack nutrition and sedentary lifestyle. It is my job as a parent to impress GOOD lifestyle habits on them, and make it their ‘nature’ to do what is right for good health (and balance in all areas). I take it very seriously. My MIL is very active at 65, and she is an ‘on-the-floor’ Grandma. I’m an ‘on-the-floor/up-a-tree/out-in-the-woods’ parent- and I plan to be that same kind of GRANDPARENT!! No knee/hip replacements, diabetes, obesity handicaps in my future! That can be avoided for the most part when we take responsibility for our own health & well-being! Take charge of your body & improve your own quality of Life!!
