    Food for thought Friday

    By workoutmommy | June 27, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my rss feed. Thanks for visiting!

Here is some food for thought today:

Check out this post from Cranky Fitness. Food definitely affects my mood, how about you?

LoukoumadesOne food that plays a huge role for me is sugar. I crave/eat it when I am stressed and then get stressed when I eat too much of it.

I want to quit, but I am not having any luck. I wish I could go cold turkey like Charlotte talks about here, but I doubt that will ever happen. Any other sugar fiends out there?

Speaking of food and cravings, I won Confessions of a Carb Queen: A Memoir from Leslie and it is one of those books that you just cannot put down. I found myself relating to Susan on so many different levels that it was almost therapeutic. If you have ever had issues with binge eating or just need a good read this weekend, definitely pick this one up.

And continuing my slight obsession interest with celebrity moms,

Brooke Burke had a baby boy back in March and has been plagued by sleepless nights. She says:

Happy.jpg“The other day I googled sleep deprivation and I had no idea how responsible my sleepless nights were for everything I had been feeling. It effects your memory, metabolism, and of course patience for everyone in your family. I am happy to say it does get better, so hang in there new moms.”

It is refreshing to hear a celebrity keep it real when it comes to being a mom.

Note to self: must sleep more. This might solve issue with sugar.
Note to my baby: please stop waking up all night long, it has gotten old and so have I!

Have an ACTIVE weekend gang and then get some sleep! No excuses!

      Hi Lisa,

I have to admit that I love food! And sometimes when I have the time, I really take a whole deal of preparing a sumptuous meal for the family lol. One thing I noticed about one particular food that I take is chocolate. Too much from it gives me sugar rush which lasts for several minutes.

I don’t know how you Mom’s do it… If I don’t get enough sleep, everything seems SO much harder. I think it messes with you in all kinds of ways. And imagine it would affect what I wanted to eat, too, and not in a good way.

Honestly, I found hat for me being very discriminate in my choice of sugar intake has helped. I cannot cut sugar. I love it. Now, I can eat 5 mini butterfingers from the candy bowl at work, or I can bring 2 pieces of Belgian dark chocolate along with my lunch and eat that instead. When I opt for the latter option, I find that I consume so much less because it satisfies me. That being said, I consume a lot of fruits. I mean a lot. I have since I was a kid. So maybe being loaded on fruits is what allows me to control the chocolate intake…

Our 14 month old used to sleep through the night but for the past month has been waking us up 2-3 times every night! I got to work this morning and saw that a coworker had brought donuts. Guess how long it took me to grab one up? :) And then another? Yeah, I know about sleep deprivation… and sugar cravings too.

Oh, yeah. I’m a jellybean ADDICT! But only the Starburst kind. It helps to be discriminating with an addiction; when the Starburst jbs aren’t around, I can’t substitute. So, I lose. Or, I win, depending on how you look at it!

I love the sweet stuff. But lots of times I can get my fix with eating tons of fruit (I’m a total fruit fanatic). My biggest problem isn’t so much WHAT I eat, but how much I eat! I love food.

Hi, Feeling for you on sleep deprivation. I was there too. Took weening the baby to get him to sleep through the night. within three days he slept through the night.
It seems for me that I still crave the sugar in the afternoons even when I’ve had good sleep.

Need to read that book! Thanks.

Oh Sagan I hear ya! My diet is pretty healthy, I just eat too much of it, lol!

I posted on Charlotte’s site about being a sugar snob. If I’m going to eat sweets (and believe me, I do!), I want something REALLY good!

Oh, and my kids didn’t sleep through the night until they each turned 4. Oy!

I’m definitely a sugar addict. I act “drunk” if I have too much of it. Very scary!
I’ve been working to recover from this addiction for the past few months now. I’m taking it very slowly as that works better for my body. (Doesn’t send it into shock and then terribly cravings/relapse!)
