This weekend I was excited to try out my new kettlebell and DVD “Kettlebells the Iron Core Way”, courtesy of GoFit.net. I have seen kettlebells at the store and in clips over at Workout IQ, but never had a chance to try one out myself.
Leading me through my workout is Sarah Lurie, a Certified Kettlebell Instructor and owner of Iron Core Kettlebell Fitness Studio in California. If you live near there, go now and sign up for a class because you will not be disappointed!
Sarah is an excellent instructor who explained and demonstrated the various moves and gave just the right amount of encouragement. She is currently pregnant and is still going strong with her kettlebell workouts. She has created a class called “Mighty Moms”, specifically for pre/post natal clients. Stay tuned for more about Sarah in a future interview!
I swung, squatted, clean and pressed, snatched, and basically sweated bullets for 45 minutes. I even did the Turkish Get Up, which is a lot harder than it sounds! By the end of the workout, I was worn out.
One advantage to a kettlebell workout is the combination of strength training and cardio. I usually neglect strength training, especially my upper body. Completing this workout was a definite challenge for me.
The best part about kettlebell training? No impact. My heart rate was elevated yet I did not have to jump up and down or run on my sore foot. I was able to do everything in the comfort of my own family room with my two year old swinging his own pretend kettlebell next to me.
If you need a challenge, I highly recommend GoFit Kettlebells the Iron Core Way DVD Volume 1. The tagline says it all:
