It’s Monday gang, which means it is time for another round of move it Monday! Let’s shake off that weekend and get a fresh and active start on our week.

In honor of Earth Day, our challenge today is to move our bodies more and our cars less. I am always impressed when Rachel (from Fitness For Mommies) blogs about biking to the store or post office while towing her kids. She gets a solid workout and the environment gets a break.

I don’t have a bike trailer but there are ways I can limit my car use and increase my activity level at the same time.

    Here are a few ideas:

Now, what can YOU do to reduce your carbon footprint and your waistline at the same time?

Get that body moving gang, no excuses!

Good ideas! I walk to and from work (45 minutes each way) and I try to take the bus more than the car- it’s also useful for getting in a bit more exercise just from walking to the bus stop or by getting off a couple stops before/after your stop. Also, I live on the 6th floor of an apartment building so I almost always take the stairs over the elevator (unless I’ve got an armful of groceries!).

Next month I start teaching on Friday Mornings. There’s a trail that goes from our house to the street where the gym is. I’m going to ride my bike to and from.

I’m walking to the bank right now! I have an hour and MUST be home before Gossip Girl starts. No judging allowed.

I’ll be walking or biking the girls to school once the weather turns nice. I was all psyched to do it today…but the torrential downpour kind of cramped my style.

sagan-that is great that you walk to/from work. I am impressed!

alyssa-that is a great way to get your cardio before class. Congrats on the new gig too!

Leslie-no judging at all! I can’t even admit what my Tivo is recording right now. Hint: Team LC

Slacker–the rain has got.to.go NOW! Hopefully you’ll be biking with the kids before the end of the week!

Greetings, back in town and ready to ride more! I took the kids all over the expo with the bike trailer and YES, I got a lot of looks!!

But with two, it is the best way to go!! (As long as they have fishy crackers, juice, toys, etc…the hair pulling is kept under control.)

I could walk to the post office and the bank. It’s less than a mile one way, and I have a nice steep hill at the beginning and end to to really put some extra oomph into my walk!
