Please caffeinate me

Caffeine is my drug of choice.
I must have it often because I am *blessed* with a baby that only sleeps in two hour increments, including overnight. Sometimes the only way I can get through my day is with an endless supply of Diet Pepsi by my side to keep me alive awake. (note: I don’t like the taste or smell of coffee or tea)
I know this is a nutritional no-no and have attempted many times to kick the habit but have yet to be successful.
I set off today to find alternate caffeine sources and here are some of the interesting choices I came across:
Jolt Gum: They claim two pieces of gum is the same as having a cup of coffee. This could be dangerous as I tend to chew gum by the pack. It also contains guarana, which has a long list of side effects that I would rather not experience.- Spazzstick: caffeinated lip balm. It was created by an Alaskan police officer who needed to stay awake during long shifts and also wanted to protect his lips. It seems genius to me, but with flavors
like “Chocolate Cake” I imagine I will burn through a stick every hour or so. It could get costly, especially at $2.99 a stick. I also can’t find anywhere on the website where it lists the ingredients?
Shower Shock: caffeinated soap that contains “approximately 12 servings/showers per 4 oz. bar with 200 milligrams of caffeine per serving.” No, you do not eat the soap in the shower, it is somehow absorbed through your skin. Also very pricey ($7 per bar) and it is a rare day when I get time to take a shower in the morning.
What do you think, have you tried any of the above?
And have you been active today?
No excuses gang, not even being too tired! Wake up, get up, and move your body!

I have caffeinated gum - called Mad Croc - that I use on occasion. I like it although I only use it very rarely as caffeine affects me more than the average girl:)
You have all my sympathy with your baby. All my kids were that way through their first year of life and my 18-month-old still gets up at least twice. Nothing more brutal than fatigue. It’d be sheer torture except they’re so stinkin’ cute.

Drinking my cup of joe right now. Couldn’t live without it. Owater has a caffienated water you could try. There is also caffience in gel packets such as PowerGel- to use when running. You know cyclist in the Tour always drink coke in the middle of an 8 hour race to keep going…Honestly, I hit up Starbucks for an extra boost of energy. Bad, Rachel…

The idea of caffeinated soap is pretty funny. I wonder if it actually works? And I agree that the gum would just be dangerous; it would be way too easy to overdose!

You have my empathy! My kids didn’t sleep through the night until they were each 4 years old. I basically spent 6 years without sleep, lol!
As far as caffeine…have you tried some of the “natural” energy drinks? Some of them don’t have many calories or any sugar. I tried “5-Hour Energy,” which was pretty good, but only lasted about 2 hours.
Or those little vials of Ginseng? OH! How about Emergen-C packets? Those actually work quite well (and I keep forgetting about them!).
(As you can see, I’m still not getting enough sleep, lol!)

thanks for some great suggestions! I am going to try and find some of the water (I did not know about this!) and also the emergen-c packets. Thanks also for letting me know I’m not the only one with kids who don’t sleep. (and that I only have 4 more years to go Alyssa? yikes!)

I’m a coffee addict too. Of course there are many studies that show it’s good for us too, in moderation (as are most things!). So, I’ll try to keep my levels down to 2 cups a day.
Of course, indulging in the nice dark chocolates could work too right? Yep, sorry, I’m no help.

Workoutmommy, my kids have Autism, and that sometimes comes with sleep issues. I’m sure your little one will be sleeping through the night in no time!!!!!
(Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you, lol!)

I use electrolyte packets, quite similar to the Emergen-C packets, but with more vitamin C in them. They work wonders for my energy!

I use electrolyte packets which are quite similar to the Emergen-C packets, but with more vitamin C. They really help to boost my energy levels when I need to be chasing daycare kids around!

Found your site through Roni’s page (although I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know I’ve been lurking). I’ve been on and off the caffeine merry-go-round, not in small part due to working thirds
Here’s a link to some other alternative forms of caffeine that you might enjoy peeking at:

IMO the most amusing is probably the JavaPops…although I’ve never ordered it’s fun to look at…

I don’t drink caffeine very often but I’ve heard somewhere that apples have the same amount of energy boosting power as a cup of coffee. (I may be very wrong lol) I haven’t tried it out as apples don’t agree with my stomach and in all honesty…I don’t like their taste.
Okay I just googled it and while it’s a a great thing to eat in the morning to wake you up (yay carbs!) It will not keep you awake. Drats! I say give emergen-c a shot.

I heart coffee. I’ll drink it even when I don’t need the pick me up.
But caffeine that’s seeping into my skin via soap? Kinda scares me!

I start my day with coffee and drink Diet Coke or Pepsi through out. Like you, my schedule doesn’t leave me much time for sleeping, so it does help. I’ve recently switched to water after 7:00pm on most nights, and thus far, I’m still able to get the jobs done. I think I start pushing that time forward and see what happens.
Little steps do work……………:)
