What happens in Vegas….

The Biggest Loser sent the blue team to Las Vegas this week as a reward for winning a challenge. My first thought was “uh oh, no one can go to Vegas and not gain weight!”
How can they resist the buffet line?
How can they resist the constant flow of alcohol?
How can they stick to their fitness regimen without trainer Bob?
I had little faith in the blue team yet not only did they conquer all of the above, they also managed to lose a combined 23 pounds.
How did they do it? They had a plan and they implemented it. Immediately upon arriving, they went to the gym for a workout. Despite staying up late, they woke up early to hit the gym for another workout. (most of them did anyway!)
Since there was no footage of them eating the cartloads of junk food the black team sent to them via room service, we can assume they were able to resist. There were no excuses, despite the fact that they were in a situation where excuses were very handy. Simply put, the blue team stuck to their commitment to health and fitness and it paid off during the weigh-in.
So what did I learn? It is possible to go on vacation, have fun, and still stick to a healthy lifestyle. (The only thing I need now is that plane ticket to Vegas!) Have a plan and stick to it, no matter what distractions are going on in your life right now. No excuses.
On that note, have you been active today?

I just got back from working out! 40 minutes on the Stepmill and about 20 minutes of lifting weights. Feel great and am now putting off work that so needs to be done!
On an aside to the Vegas-food connection, the last time I was there was with my husband and another couple. We all drank a wee bit too much and end our night of wild dancing at a 24-hour diner where I ordered a fat egg-white omelette but also (I am so, so ashamed to say) took guacamole off ANOTHER DINER’S TABLE. And ate it. It was a giant dish of guac, totally untouched (still had that perfect dollop swirl design) and so after they paid and left, I was like, “That guac is mine.” I’m not proud of this but the martinis made me do it.

I am very impressed with the program as it goes about diet the healthy way. We now have our own version of it going in South Africa and they are also getting great results.
The only thing that stops me pigging out at holiday resorts is that I am Vegan and 90% of the fattening food I can’t eat LOL

I’m a Biggest Loser watcher, too, and Betsy’s comment cracks me up. Everyone is always crying! On a happy note, I’ve had a great workout week and am getting ready to go outside for a run now!

I agree. The problem is that on vacation there are too many temptations and people will always fall back on the
“I am on vacation, why should I suffer”
If it really is suffering then what is wrong with the mindset? I used to do this all the time and realized that getting loaded, eating crap food, and staying up late just meant that for one reason or another I felt crappy later. There is no suffering in treating yourself crappy but the instant gratification is the problem in that moment.
And yes, I am going on holidays in a couple of weeks and will out these attitudes to the test, wish me luck.

Vegas is like Buffet Mecca. I cannot stay away from buffets and those things are like calorie cornucopia. I agree, it’s easy to stay disciplined when it’s a one night stay. A week is another story. I think one way to get fun and exercise in is by going somewhere were you can do things like kayak, swim, parasail, hike, walk in nature etc. Vegas is good for drinking, gambling, and shopping which does entail walking and flexing the credit card arm so I guess that’s exercise, no?…lol

I would have liked to see them stay longer. I’ve been on the elliptical while watching the BL. It makes for a great 1+ hr. workout on Wednesday morning.
