125x125animated.gifCelebrate the kick-off of American Heart Month and National Wear Red Day by wearing red today in support of women’s heart health.

The Red Dress—the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness—was designed to build awareness that women are at risk for heart disease, and motivate them to take action to reduce their risk.

The Heart Truth is: “Heart Disease Doesn’t Care What You Wear—It’s the #1 Killer of Women.”

    The statistics are alarming:

The good news is that both men and women can lower their risk of heart disease by as much as 82 percent by leading a healthy lifestyle.

The American Heart Association calls it the ABC’s of preventing heart disease:

We only get one life gang, let’s do everything we can to make it a long one.

Here is a list from the American Heart Association of what we can do now to prevent heart disease (and stroke) later.

Do not delay, your life may depend on it!

    1. Stop smoking
    2. Reduce blood cholesterol
    3. lower blood pressure
    4. be physically active every day
    5. aim for a healthy weight
    6. manage diabetes
    7. reduce stress
    8. limit alcohol

The AHA website has great information and resources on it, so please check it out.

Now go be active (in your red clothes)!
    Your heart will thank you!
