Are you ready to change your lifestyle?

    By workoutmommy | January 15, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my rss feed. Thanks for visiting!

Oprah Winfrey has started a new weightloss effort called Oprah and Bob’s Best Life Challenge.

It’s a pretty simple concept—eat less, move more, and make small changes in your life. It is about a healthy LIFESTYLE , not about being on a diet.

This is something I struggle with. I know I could essentially starve myself down 10-15 pounds, but that will not make me a healthier mom. I already move a lot, but I need to make serious changes to what I eat. I am a slacker when it comes to fruit and vegetables and I absolutely KNOW this has to change.

Oprah had several success stories on her show. The common phrase amongst them all was “I changed my diet”. One man admitted that he could eat an ENTIRE bucket of chicken in one sitting. Wow.

Here is another wow! Check out this before and after picture of Jennifer, one of the woman featured on the show (she is also in People magazine this month).

    She lost 180 pounds!

Jennifer says it was all hard work, but something that you need to be mentally ready to do.

“First you have to set your mind and your heart and just be prepared and get mentally ready. And this time you’re going to do it,” she says. “And just kind of have a heart-to-heart with yourself.”

    I’m ready! Are you?

I need to focus my efforts on eating healthy foods all day long. I not only need to talk the talk, but I need to walk the walk.

So right now, I am walking to my fridge (or maybe I will do walking lunges there?) to get some fruit. There will be no other snacks tonight except for fruit.
How about you, what small change can you make today that will make you healthier tomorrow?

The problem seems to be two fold I think with any of us to lose weight and improve health. First you need to realize that you need to believe in the change that you ar making for the long term and then you have to believe in it so that you can go a few weeks before seeing a lot of results.

Maybe that is why Biggest Loser is so popular, big losses right away, instant gratification.

I always joke about how I eat well and then also add a bunch of junk to my diet. If it was really important to me I could probably lose a few pounds by cleaning up the diet but it is not important enough yet.

I must stop bringing sweets and soda into this house. If it is here. I will eat it and drink it. If it isn’t here….I lose weight! I bought a package of cookies from my milk delivery service last week and I ate them all myself…in three days. And then I wonder why I gained a pound this week.

I NEED to exercise everyday but I destroy all of the work I have done with what I put in my mouth.

I need to listen to my body; to feed it when I am hungry, and not feed it when I am not. To eat fresh, healthy food instead of frozen crud. And to rest when I’m tired (hard to do with kids, lol!).

Lisa, you couldn’t have said it better. All of these infomercials, diet pills, and ab do-hickeys don’t do the trick. If they did, you wouldn’t keep seeing new “solutions” to the weight loss problem. It all boils down to burning more calories off than you eat. This is definitely a daunting task, so preparing your mind is as important as preparing your fitness program. Keep it up!

For me, if I feel tempted to eat too much, I just remember, one step forward or two steps back. If you’re trying to lose weight, losing 2 pound this week and gaining it back next week, means you’ve just wasted two more weeks, the week it took you to gain it back, plus the week to lose it again.

Thinking in these terms helped me a lot.

Keep up the good work, Lisa

So I know the main problems for most moms is that the change in lifestyle is just to hard to adjust to after having a baby. My wife and my time schedule are so completely altered obviously because we are getting less sleep, and have less time to exercise. My wife has read a review upon this product called fit yummy mummy. Does anyone else know it?

Tony’s last blog post..You can be a Fit Yummy Mummy too!!
