    My letter to McDonald’s

    By workoutmommy | October 9, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my rss feed. Thanks for visiting!

    Dear McDonald’s,
Thank you for welcoming me to the neighborhood with your coupon book. While I appreciate all the free items I can get from your restaurant, I will not be visiting you anytime soon.

You see, I am on to you and the vast amount of fat, calories, and sodium that is served up in your food. Sure, it tastes yummy on the way down but I always feel so gross (and thirsty) just a few hours after eating at your place.

What exactly is in the food that you are serving me?
    Oh…you aren’t sure either?

Thanks, but no thanks….this is one book of coupons that will go straight to the trash.

    Sincerely,
    Workout Mommy

PS: Stop trying to lure my kids there too. We have enough junky toys laying around the house!

Here are some numbers to help you make the decision to drive PAST instead of driving thru the next McDonald’s you see:

    McDonald’s Nutrition Facts

    Top Menu Choices

Foods Calories Fat Sodium Cholesterol Protein
    Two Hotcakes 610 18 680 25 9
    Big Mac 560 31 1070 85 26
    Chicken selects premium breast strips (5 piece) 630 33 1550 90 39
    Sausage Biscuit with Egg 550 37 1160 245 18
    Quarter Pounder with Cheese 530 30 1290 95 28
    Large Fries 570 30 330 0 6
    Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit 470 28 1250 235 18
    Quarter Pounder 420 21 820 70 23

Do you really want to put that much fat and sodium in your body?

Granted, McDonald’s is trying to make an effort by offering more “healthy” food items, but as you can see even one of the healthier items (Select Chicken Strips) is still loaded with calories, fat and sodium.

Also, let’s face it, how often are we really going to pick the apple slices over the french fries? Once we are confronted by that familiar aroma of fried food, it is very hard to resist.

I know it can be tempting, especially with small children. It’s very convenient and you don’t even have to get out of the car! But, it’s not worth it. Maybe someday the healthier fast food establishments will have a drive-thru to help make our lives easier and healthier. (any Subway owners out there? How about it?)

Until then, resist the golden arches of McDonald’s. They aren’t worth it, but you are!
