We neglect OUR needs and put our kids needs first.
It isn’t selfish to take care of YOURSELF. It’s essential.
Here is another interview with a fit dad!
Please meet Todd, a single dad with 2 kids. Todd hasn’t always been in shape or into fitness. Find out how he gets it done!
Q: Have you always been fit? What inspired you to live a fit lifestyle?
A: I was athletic growing up but once I graduated from college, I
focused more on my career and less on exercising. When I turned 40 a
few years ago, I decided that I need to focus more on myself. I also
realized that I would have to be dating again soon because of a
divorce, so in order for me to find what I was looking for, I would
have to lose weight, change who I was and become healthier.
Q: What advice do you have for dads who claim they don’t have time for exercise?
A: Build a plan… For the first 3 months I started slow with a simple
activity of walking every morning at 5AM. On the next three months, I
added a boot camp to my weekend workout. The following three
months, I was actively working out 3-5 days a week doing a boot camp.
Having a plan kept me from losing my interest. It was important for
me to map out the first year.
Q: How have your workouts changed since having kids?
A: Working out when you have kids around can be challenging and
creates a great excuse. But keep in mind, in order for your kids to
be happy, they must see you happy. The only way that I could care for
my kids is that I would have to care for myself first. There are a
lot of great family activities like, walking, biking, hiking, etc.
Q: What is your least favorite exercise?
A: Running but my goal this year is to run a 5k. This needs to
become part of my weekly workouts.
Q: Do you have any mental tricks that you use when you just don’t feel
like working out?
A: Every day between 530PM to 630PM is my time. I make sure that
it’s on my calendar and I tell the kids, family and friends that I
can’t be reached during that time nor will I change my plans. I plan
my work out for the week and this allows me to stay focused and
excited for my upcoming activities.
Q: Random question: what is your go-to snack food?
And who doesn’t love a good beer with their pizza, right?
