Q: Have you always been fit? What inspired you to live a fit lifestyle?
I’ve always loved keeping fit, I was an athletic child always on the go.
Although aside from physical education at school, I was not a member of a
sports team as my parents felt my focus should be on my education. In my
teens cable arrived in the UK with Jane Fonda style workouts and I was
hooked, this ignited my passion for group exercise more specifically step
classes. Whilst at university I joined a local athletic club and started
competing in 100 & 200 m races but it was difficult to maintain my
training whilst doing my degree. My love of classes is what prompted me to train to be a group exercise
instructor, my initial entry into being a fitness professional. I still
maintain my own fitness regime, as I thrive on the energy that I get from
working out, I’m glad for the strength I’ve gained, I also love being
toned and feeling great.Q: What advice do you have for moms who claim they don’t have time for
exercise?Yes being a mum and fitting in regular exercise can be challenging,
especially with young and dependant children. The key is to have short
workouts at hand, 10 – 30 minute workouts which you can fit in when you
are time starved, then maximize on your weekends and do longer workouts
when you might have more time.It will make you feel good about yourself, it’s me time and the energy and
strength gained will help with the demands of raising childrenQ: Are you more of a cardio mommy or strength training mommy?
Cardio is important for efficient cardiovascular functioning and to
maintain fitness levels but my first love is strength training, I can’t
get enough of my dumb bells and kettlebells. At the same time, the ideal
workout program should incorporate cardio and strength training to achieve
balance.Q: What is your *least* favorite exercise?
I have a love hate relationship with burpees, they are a great all over
exercise but let’s face it they’re hard!Q: Do you have any mental tricks that you use when you just don’t feel
Like working out? When I’m not in the mood, I focus on the end goal and know that by the
end, I’ll be glad that I pushed myself and I’ll feel great.Q: Random question: what is your go-to snack food?
Trail mix are my go to snack, the combo of raisins, fruit and nuts is just
what I need after a workout to etch up my energy levels and hold me before
I have my next meal.
Thank you Gillian for being an inspiration to all!

I LOVE burpees, the king of bodyweight! And there’s so many kinds – I always combine mine with pushups. It hurts so good!

I just found your blog for the first time, and I love this interview series concept. I hear so much from parents on how hard it is to make time to work out, but this is a great inspiration. Thank you so much!
Well done keeping in shape while raising a kid. I can see that would be a challenge. I have trouble finding enough time in the day to have a job, take care of myself and still get in a good workout every day. Keep up the good work.
