I haven’t watched The Biggest Loser in several years because it just got to be too much for me. The drama, the product placement, the crazy (unsafe, in my mind) workouts, etc. And don’t even get me started on some of the ridiculous trainer choices!
I was a little surprised when Jillian Michaels announced she is coming back to the show for the new season since I thought I had read somewhere that she left because of all the drama. (but my google search turns up nothing, so perhaps I made that up in my crazy mind!)
Anyway, I will most likely watch the new season because I am very curious to see how her training methods might be different now that she is a mommy. In the past, she was always hardcore and “no excuses’ type of person. It reminded me of how I was before I had kids. I didn’t care if you were up all night with your babies, you had better be in my AM bootcamp class the next day or else you were not serious about your fitness!! (yes, I actually said that to clients! Don’t worry, karma has come back for me!)
The new season will also feature teens—which I’m not so sure is a great idea. So much of life now is out there in the media, do we really need to put media focus on overweight young adults?
I’d love to know your thoughts! Are you going to watch?
Do you think Jillian will be “softer”?
Is featuring overweight teens a good or bad idea?

Ugh. I just don’t like Jillian, so if I were to suddenly want to watch the show, I really wouldn’t now. I am curious to see how she changes now that she’s a mom, but the show itself is something I’m completely against.

Hmmm I honestly do not watch the show (I haven’t been able to make it through a full episode, only bits and pieces). It seems rather twisted, these people are overweight for a reason, most of it is mental. And yet they have to ‘win challenges” that often mess with their minds in order to lose weight? Not to mention running with a large amount of stress on the joints. But I may have to actually check out a few episodes now that I know Jillian is coming back. Honestly I’m not sure that the fact she is a mom will change her. Because I’m sure the show brought her back because of the persona that she has set for herself, but we’ll see!

I think I saw some (now cancelled) MTV series that had a teen weight loss theme. But it was a much more “gentle” program. No product placement, no forced workouts. It was more about guiding them into healthy choices ‘n such. I’m sure the teen contestants will do well, but I worry about what type of impression this will makes on young viewers.

Nope, I won’t watch. It has become so drama filled and often mean spirited. These people need serious help and I don’t see them getting it. The workouts and methods are simply unsafe and not conducive to lifelong fitness. When they all started hocking diet pills, just forget it.
I’m sort of disappointed in Jillian for going back.
Not real big on the teen element either. My worry is that teens at home watching will compare themselves/think they should lose weight that way, fast, whatever. BUT, I don’t even have TV, so not like I’d watch anyway, LOL.

As a personal trainer myself I am not completely on board with the Biggest Loser methods of weight loss. I would be curious to see an update on the contestants after about a year or so. Losing that much weight is just as much mental work as it is physical in my opinion. Without the emotional help they will probably not maintain that weight loss b/c they will fall back into their old patterns. It makes good t.v. I guess, but weight loss needs to be a life change that focuses on health not t.v. ratings.

I have stopped watching this show. But if she’s coming back, I think I’ll check out a few episodes.
