I am a numbers nerd. I love to wear a pedometer and strive for 10k+ steps per day. I consider myself a VERY active person. My diet isn’t perfect, but it isn’t horrible either. So WHY o’ WHY can I not lose this baby weight?
Well, my new little friend (BodyMedia FIT LINK Armband ) has all the answers for me:
- My metabolism is way slower than I imagined. (sigh)
- I eat way more than I realized. (sigh)
- and I don’t get enough sleep. (yawn)
How do I know this? Because after wearing the armband for a few weeks, the numbers were pretty clear. On average, I only burn about 1900 calories per day. On average, I consume about 2200 calories per day. (ack!) And as for sleep? I’m lucky if I get 5 hours. As research indicates, less sleep potentially results in more body fat.
The Body Media Fit Link is a fantastic little product that I just LOVE! It tracks your activity, your steps, food diary, calories burned, and how many hours you were sleeping. It stores all your information in the online activity manager where you can see all sorts of graphs and charts. The armband is a little awkward, but it wasn’t long before I got used to it being on my arm. I wear it everywhere and I’ve had a lot of people ask me about it.
I am thrilled that it has Bluetooth that syncs with my iPhone app.
During the day when I am feeling “blah”, I simply hit the sync button and get a jolt of motivation to get up and do some exercise!
So HOW does it get all the information? Basically, it “reads” your output through your skin. Read the science of it all over here.
The only downside I found was the food diary is not as user friendly as others I have used. I would love to see them add the bar code scan feature.
The BodyMedia FIT LINK Armband requires a monthly subscription although your first 3 months are FREE! After that it is $6.95 per month, which I think is very reasonable for all the features and information you will be able to track.
So now that I know my details, I need to make a better plan on how I am going to achieve my goals! Thankfully, my FIT LINK Armband is here to keep me on track!
Want to get one of your own? (of course you do!)
Use coupon code WORKOUTMOM to get 15% off! Hurry though, it expires on 9/10/12.
Disclosure: I received a BodyMedia Fitlink Armband for review purposes. I was not paid for this post, it is my honest opinion. And yes, my metabolism is super slow.

This sounds like a neat new gadget, if I lived in the US I would totally get one. I am sure the upgrade will have the food barcode.
Oh Metabolism, sigh, i’m sure that is a huge problem for me to and I probably don’t get as much excerise as you.
Keep up the great work.

You are correct when you said, “less sleep potentially results in more body fat.” Most people do not realize how important that factor is. They eat healthy, workout but don’t get enough sleep which hinders their weight loss efforts.

Hmmm….the idea of knowing all my stats seems simultaneously empowering and frightening. Talk about accountability!
