Creating my own Crossfit style workouts

by workoutmommy on August 21, 2012

I’ve always wanted to belong to a Crossfit “box” but unfortunately there are none in my area.   So each day I try to create my own WOD and usually it involves a child or two. (or 4!)
My workout is usually  done at the park and looks something like this:  (click thru to see video)

While at the park, I try and do as many burpees, frog jumps, walking lunges, squats, bench jumps, pushups and laps around the park that my kids will allow.   They think it’s fun to watch and many times will join in with me.   :)

Today my husband was home to watch the kids so my WOD today was:

10 kettlebell thrusters
10 box jumps
10 clean and presses (5 on each side)
10 kettlebell swings
7 assisted pull ups
10 box jumps
10 pushups

I repeated this 5 times and then ran a 1/2 mile as fast as I could.   Good thing I had filled 2 water bottles for this workout, because I needed them both!

The whole workout took about 35 minutes but it packed a very powerful punch!

What do your workouts look like these days?

It would be sooo cool to workout with you in person! But I do see in the video that your kid has way more advanced WOD skillz than you do. ;)

I love this style of workout. I am a personal trainer and bootcamp instructor and I incorporate many of these moves in my own workouts. These workouts are great for integrating intervals which are major calorie burners and metabolism booster. I am also a mom, and believe me I know what it is like to have an audience when I am exercising. It is good for them to see their moms be healthy and strong!
