I’ve run three marathons and would love to do a few more but right now with my kids being so little (and sleepless!) and my foot issue, I’m not sure another one is in my future.
Here are the ones I have run:
1. Marine Corps: my first and no one forgets their first, right?
![]()
Pros: crowd support is awesome and you get to run with a bunch of attractive marines.
Cons: I can’t really think of any!2. New York City: everyone should run this one, it was amazing! (and I passed P. Diddy!)
Pros: crowd support again is awesome. You get to see most of NYC by foot, which I thought was pretty awesome.
Cons: getting bussed to the starting line and waiting around forever. It is also very crowded, do NOT expect to PR in this one!3. Richmond, VA: a very small town race
Pros: flat and fast course. Good potential for a BQ.
Cons: very boring! Not much for crowd support at all.
My marathon wish list includes Boston (of course!), Big Sur, and DisneyWorld.
How about you?
Which marathons have you run or do you hope to run someday?

MCM was my first too. I’d run it every year if it didn’t involve training through VA summer. ;o) My second one only had 450 people (which was way too small). I’d like to do a third one, somewhere between those two sizes LOL.

@MCM Mama: 450 people? that’s really small!
I totally understand the young-baby-marathon issue! I’ve only done one (Poconos), because it was relatively close to where we were living at the time… like the Richmond one, it was really small and I look forward to a larger one at some point… possibly Dallas in April.

If you do another one let me know!!
I posted an article on the top 10 marathons to travel for and big sur was on the list!!! The Vegas marathon I did was dec 3, chilly but it was at night! Great race until we butted up with the 1/2 marathon people!! Poorly organized, I know I could have done 4:30 as that is what I was training for, but weaving between walkers and stroller was a mess!!! Good for the walkers to partake but they needed to be to the right not all over!! We have bicyclist yelling throughout the course marathoners to the left 1/2 to the right but you know how well that went!
Totally addicted and want to beat 4:48!!! Come on Lisa let’s do it!!;)
@Tammy: I’d love one that starts at night! that’s too bad Vegas was so poorly organized, it was a Rock N Roll one too, right?
DISNEY! its a great first timer marathon IMO, too. love it.
@Heather Montgomery: Disney puts on the BEST races!! You can’t go wrong running in the happiest place on earth, right?
no full, did half a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago
and want to do Disney princess in ’13

Im running Big Sur this year and will be registering for MCM as well. Looking forward to both. I also really enjoyed the San Francisco marathon since you get to run across the Golden Gate Bridge!
First one was Gobbler Grind , it was just ok. There is a lot of (paved) trail running, and I did this solo….which meant a lot of boring miles without crowd support.
My most recent marathon was The OBX, it is FANTASTIC! Great crowd support, great snacks & course support along the way. Best part was every half mile or so there were funny quotes or funny unknow fact about the oBX area. It is a corral start, so don’t expect the clock to reflect a PR. Beautiful course and so worth the trip to the coat to run along side it! Although the bridge at mile 24 sucks…bad! (that would be the one “con”.) I’m going back in 2015 to run it again, but that time my daughter will be by my side!
I have several half maras under my belt, and of those Rock The Parkway is by far my favorite. No cons at all to that race!

That should have said “so worth te trip to the COAST to run along side it…”. Damn you autocorrect!

I give up….

Big Sur is on my list too! However, this year I’m doing Chicago for the second time and hoping for a sub-4. They say it’s a good one because it’s so flat and I agree. The only downer can be HOT weather. It’s October 7th (I believe) so you never know. Otherwise, I’ve only done Balitmore (VERY hilly!) and Marine Corps (3x, love it!). I hope to do New York this year if I get in!

Disney is my favorite! I also really liked The Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. It was a fun race, great crowd support and good race swag

You passed Diddy!! Way to go! My one and only is Boston. I ran in 07 for Diabetes Association. My performance haunts me to this day and I know one day I’ll be back again!!
My LIFE GOAL is to someday run a marathon! I have run 2 half marathons.

I read this post and thought I was reading about myself…”I’ve run three marathons and would love to do a few more but right now with my kids being so little (and sleepless!) and my foot issue”
Mine were Honululu (amazing), MCM and MCM again. Way cold this past year…time to try another elsewhere. Of course the challenge remains with 2 little ones and foot problems (though mine is just the standard and annoying plantar fascitis).
Thanks for the encouraging posts! Love reading.
I truly admire anyone who can run a marathon. I’m not much of a runner due to a) some injuries b) coordination, but when I was able to run, I loved the euphoria I got about 10 minutes in. My sister and husband have both run NYC and they said its an experience they’ll never forget
