Everyone who sees me makes a comment about how awful it must be to be pregnant during the summer time. Honestly, I’ve had a winter baby before and I MUCH prefer summer pregnancies to winter ones.
Here are my reasons why:
1. Very little clothing required. It might not look pretty, but I can throw on just a tank, shorts, and flip flops and be good to go. During the winter, there are too many layers (and boots!) to worry about!
2. Swimming: yes, it’s Africa hot out there so I just park my large body in the cool water and float. No flotation device required.
3. Bathing suits: I don’t have to worry about what I look like in a bathing suit because I’m pregnant! I’m big no matter what so why not just enjoy the break from criticizing myself?
4. Getting outside for fresh air: once the baby is born, I can get back to walking outside right away. My last baby was born in the middle of a snowy winter and we were trapped inside for way too long.
5. Ice cream. Need I say more?
How about you? Did you prefer a winter or summer pregnancy?

I really like your reasons for being pregnant in the summer. I have been pregnant in the summer and the winter. Thankfully my summer here in AK isn’t that hot, otherwise I know I would hate it! I did like wearing skirts during the summer. I probably looked cuter too, because in the winter I wore a lot of sweatpants. Like, every day.
@Samantha @ Mama Notes: gotta love the sweatpants!
I imagine a winter pregnancy in AK must be brutal?
I haven’t planned any of my pregnancies, but I always end up having my babies in the summer. Being in Colorado, I’d have to say I wouldn’t have it any other way!
3 weeks to go with #3!
@Kelly: i can’t believe it’s only 3 more weeks! time has flown…I’m right behind you!
Love your reasons…ha ha but that would mean a shower 3 times a day or more.pregnant women just can’t help it! It just feels so warm ..and warmer even if it’s not really that HOT…
@ana: yes, that is true. I definitely need to shower more! Don’t sit too close to me!
OMG i was literally LOL
I love your reasons!!!
I have january & march babies but its not like we get cold or snow here in FL so the whole layers/boots thing didnt apply here
@Tara Burner: i really need to come to FL to have my babies!
Definitely, SUMMER!! babies,
I love your reasons, and less clothing is better. I hate the coats and snow boots and barely could rich my toes. summers means sandals and shorts, skirts and fun in the pool.
I love your sense of humor. It really inspire me to move forward!
Ok these are AWESOME reasons to love being pregnant in the summer! Since our weather out here doesn’t change much I don’t have a preference. If I still lived in Indiana I think I’d have to agree with you. Besides my feet swell so much I’d prefer flip-flops over boots any day.
I had my first in July and my second in November. But it’s California, so winter isn’t really winter. But our apartment, where we lived during my first pregnancy, was SO HOT!!!!! Luckily my gym had a pool and I went every day.
I don’t even want to think about being pregnant during a real winter, lol!

My sister is 6 months and she says there are pros and cons, but the main pro is being able to take a refreshing dip in the pool. To go along with her maternity dress, I bought her a pair of women’s sunglasses with polarized lenses, so she can read her mommy books while laying out and drying off in the sun! The cons is that she complains that she is always sweating from the minute she gets out of her car.
Nice tips, especially the ice cream one! Check out these tips on what to wear while pregnant during the summer! http://www.mommyappelseed.com/pregnancyblog/2011/07/07/summer-maternity-clothes-tips/
