Creative New Workout Tips For Busy Moms

by workoutmommy on March 14, 2011

Today’s guest post is from Jim.   I am taking his advice and heading out to the playground to workout while the little ones play!

For many women, it’s hard to balance the daily duties, such as taking care of the kids, preparing meals, going to after-school functions, and preparing dinner. In your daily routine it’s almost impossible to also fit in a comprehensive workout schedule that will afford you the kind of healthy living that is desired.

If you’re like most people, then you probably are faced with making due on a fixed budget. Though it’s nice to be able to treat yourself to personal day out or buy luxuries, such as Organic Makeup , many can’t afford the added expense of a monthly gym membership. Make an investment in a workout stroller or bike specifically designed to stand up to constant usage and punishment of your workout routine. You can take your child with you while you venture out for a quick run, and the added weight of a child can make for a more effective workout routine, while saving you money in the long run.

Use your daily outings to the playground as another way to get a good workout. During your next playground trip, instead of watching your children play, try getting involved and make it an exercise that you can do together. If your child is a little older you might want to play a game of tag with them. When pushing your child on the swing, do a squat in between pushes. There are other ways you can make your child’s play time your workout time. With a little creative thinking you can get a great exercise in between chores.

If you’re committed to having a consistent regiment of calisthenics, you may find it difficult to balance this with the constant demands that children have on your attention. You can use this to work in your favor. If you have a baby or toddler, consider adding them to your workout routine. You can walk up and down the stairs or do other exercises, while holding your child. This can work out your entire body while at home and keep your child entertained in the process.

The demands on mothers can be taxing at times, but realize that there are things you can do to stay fit, while getting your daily chores done. By the end of your day, you’re probably so tired that the idea of a workout seems too much to handle. Realize that you can do both at the same time and spend your nights free to relax.

Great post! I enjoy going to the gym to take a variety of classes, but on days that I don’t get the chance to go, I like to try to find ways to be active with my kids. On some days, we’ll set up obstacle courses (using household items or kids’ toys, such as jump ropes or regular ropes, play tunnels, hula hoops, pillows, boxes) or go on scavenger hunts in our neighborhood (running/hopping/skipping to the next clue).

If your kids are still too young to run around, you can get a great workout with just a stroller, exercise band, yourself and your child! There are stroller exercise programs, such as Stroller Strides and Stroller Fit, that moms can join or you can get as great and challenging of a work out by yourself or with a girlfriend doing a few simple exercises. Here’s an article on my website that has more information about exercising with a stroller and your kids and easy, simple exercises to follow:
