If only

by workoutmommy on March 9, 2011

Today’s guest post is courtesy of the wonderful “Leaving Fatville”, where she blogs about weight loss journey.   She and I connected via Twitter and she always brings a smile to my face.    She is trying to get her way to Fitbloggin this spring,  can you help her out?

**************************************

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking, “If I only”.

  • If I only had a gym membership, it would be easier to get my workouts in.
  • If I only had a treadmill, then I could walk more.
  • If I only had a spare room to exercise in, then I could get it done.
  • If I only had a trainer to help kick my butt into gear, then I could lose more weight.
  • If I only worked fewer hours, then I could get more workouts in.

I spend a lot of time dwelling on what I don’t have instead of what I do. I’m not grateful for what I have, and I should be. I forget that I’ve come so far already. I keep focusing on how far I have to go, yet. I have tools that will help me, but I don’t want the blame of not following through.

  • I do have a bike, and it’s in front of the tv. I have no excuse not to use it.
  • I do have exercise DVDs, I just choose not to use them.
  • I do have hand weights, I just keep them on a shelf.
  • I have time, granted it’s at 5am in the morning, but I can do it. I just keep hitting the snooze.

I can play “If I only,” all day long. But it won’t get my ass in gear. And it won’t get the pounds off. Yet, I keep playing this game with myself.

No more “If I only.” More “I am.”

I am getting on the bike. (Even if it is 5am.)

I am using the hand weights. I am using them during commercial breaks.

I am using the DVDs. They’re free, I’d be stupid to let them gather dust.

I am doing this.

My way, in my time. After all, it’s not a race, it’s a lifestyle change.

What are your “If I only”s? What are you “I am”s?

Great reminder! I think I can focus on if only things were perfect, but they never will be! So, I am doing what I can, lest I do NOTHING.

i love this post and can totally relate. My “if i only” lists can go on and on…” but you nailed it, there are solutions to all of our “if i only”… i just had a baby and my “if i only” list has doubled, but i am working hard to try and find realistic solutions.. i know i can’t go to the gym as much anymore, so i ordered 3 workout dvd’s last week and this morning while baby is in her bouncy chair, mama worked out to a great denise austin workout DVD :-)

I’m totally stealing your quote:
No more “If I only.” More “I am.”

That’s some advice we all need! Great post!
