My favorite running gear

Here is my “Top 5 running gear”  list, please add your favorites in the comments below!

1. iPhone.   Not only does it hold all my playlists, but it doubles as a mileage/pacer with wonderful apps such as RunKeeper.   I used to wear bulky gadgets on my arm or chips on my shoe to track my distance but now thanks to my iPhone, it’s all right there in the palm of my hand!  I also feel “safer” running with it since I know that if anything happens I can just call for help.    The downside though is sometimes I tend to get distracted when I hear an email or tweet come in.  I must resist that urge to check it right away!

2. Polar Heart Rate Monitor I am a big believer in heart rate training and now that I am pregnant I use it more as a guide, rather than a challenger.  Sometimes I feel great but when I look down and see my heart rate is through the roof I know to scale it back.

3.   iFitness: this is brand new to me, but I love it!  I got it for the Disney Princess Half Marathon and highly recommend it for all runners.   I got the hydration belt,  so it holds 2 water bottles, a spacious front pocket, and it even has places to hold Gu (or other gels).   The front pocket does not look very big, but it’s big enough to hold my iPhone plus it has another little area to hold your ID, credit cards, or cash.    In addition to running, I also plan to use this when I take the kids out for long walks because it is super handy and comfy to wear.

4.  Asics:  I have tried other shoes but nothing works better on my feet than my beloved Asics.   Find the running shoe that fits YOU by going to a speciality store and getting fitted.  It is worth the time and extra money to find a shoe that will fully support you during every step.    Don’t ever skimp on running shoes!

5. Thriv clothing: I absolutely LOVE their clothing!  It is made from bamboo and oh-so comfy!  It wicks the sweat away from your body and doesn’t retain any sweat smell after you wash it.    Their prices are reasonable and definitely worth it!    (be sure to  check out Raw Threads for some very fun and cute Thriv shirts).

These are my favorites for now—-what are yours?

I never run without a friend, so I don’t take my iPhone! I do have an iPod for races alone, but that is it!
- my Garmin, love that thing!!!
- my New Balance Shoes, like you said find something that works!
- I have a very old Columbia windbreaker that was bought maybe back in college? on sale at Hechts before I was really running. It is perfect from a slight chill to down right freezing with a layer underneath.

Nothing very original for me:
Garmin
iPod Nano
Mizuno running shoes

My favorite winter gear is my Nike hat with a pocket for my Nano and earphones sewn into the hem. They need to make a summer version for all those races that ban earphones.

I can’t do without my Ipod when I run…lol – keeps me motivated with my favorite songs. My favorite running gear also is Thriv clothing and yes I agree, they are so comfortable. And there is no substitute for getting the best running shoes by going to a specialty store. I agree that Asics are the best.
