HKC!

One of my goals this year was to get my HKC kettlebell certification from Dragon Door. I have been to many fitness certifications in my life and am confident in saying this was the most comprehensive, informative, and challenging certification I have done so far.

It was a full day of HANDS ON learning (which is key when it comes to fitness training) and the experts there were so very helpful. (including Darius and Christina from Dynamic Solutions, which ironically I wrote about about two years ago).

The workshop leader was Brett Jones, who is just so awesome I cannot even begin to explain. His knowledge and teaching skills were fantastic.

We were divided into smaller training groups with a RKC trainer and worked all day on our technique, form, and teaching skills of 3 major kettlebell moves: the swing, turkish get up, and goblet squat.
Let’s just say my body was exhausted by the time it came to the testing portion!

Unlike many other certs, testing on this was the REAL deal. We had to perform each of the 3 moves in front of our trainer with PERFECT form. If our form was off in any way, we did not “pass”. We then had to “teach” another person the moves and provide at least one corrective exercise. Again, we were observed by our trainer and given a grade.

I have to be honest, I was a bundle of nerves at this point. Although we technically would not “fail” because we could have 3 months to perfect our form and achieve certification, I did not want to leave that building without mine in hand!

So thankfully, I was ecstatic to learn I had passed! Yay!

If you are looking for a trainer to help you get started or train with kettlebells, I cannot stress enough how important it is to go to someone qualified and professionally trained. Form is KEY!! I love Jillian Michaels, but it is obvious to anyone that has been properly trained on kettlebells that she has clearly NOT!

So gang, are you ready to get swinging? :)
