5 “Gotta Have” Fitness Gadgets: Slim Down, Pump Up, Plug In

by workoutmommy on December 20, 2010

Today’s  guest post was written by Adana Lima, owner of a website offering high quality adjustable dumbbells for sale at an affordable price.

Whether you’re slimming down, pumping up, dropping some weight or building muscle mass, electronic technology is here to help. Today you’re equipped to keep a more accurate record of performance – in some cases data of critical importance like heart rate and blood pressure.

The world of fitness and good health has gone high tech so here are five must-have electronic goodies every health conscious consumer should consider. (They make great gifts, too.)

1. Timex Ironman Global Trainer

If you’re serious about fitness, fit yourself with this high tech monitor and at a decent price.

This tool tracks everything: GPS so you’re never lost, heart rate to keep you in the target zone, split times, and four display panels you create to track it all. This Timex fitness computer is programmed for multi-sport modes, simplifying set up – a major time suck with lots of fitness watches.

You can download daily workout data to your computer and monitor progress in a number of ways, giving you a better idea of just how well your current routine is working.

Stay motivated by tracking your progress and keeping critical information on record. You’ll be amazed at how much you improve in just a few weeks when you track your progress. And that motivates, right? Keep pushing ahead.

2. Wii

The Wii platform is ideal for fitness motivation and fun for you and the kids. Developers have made Wii the game console that gets you moving using the wireless gyro control with minimalist design and plenty of add-ons. (Shooters take note: the Wii Zapper will up your game play by a 100% and you’ll have more fun doing it.)

You can go from hard-core with apps like ‘My Fitness Coach’ that’ll put you through a serious workout in front of the hi-def. Or, you can still get a workout with some of the Wii sports packs like ‘Family Party: Fitness Fun’ and ‘Wii Sports’, which comes bundled with the console, single controller and nunchuk.

Add the dance pad floor controller and dance your way to good health.

3. iPod

Keep moving to your favorite tunes or get lost in an audio book as you work out. You forget just how hard you’re working but you don’t forget the improvements you feel and see in yourself.

If you don’t have an iPod, get one for workouts and workout longer.

4. Fitbit

Fitbit is a fitness monitor that you slip into a pocket or wear on your waist throughout each day. The unit is low profile and light so its not annoying. Just slip it in your pocket and Fitbit tracks:

  • calories burned that day
  • number of steps taken
  • distance traveled
  • and even sleep quality.

Data uploads automatically to track daily levels of activities minute by minute. Great motivation for adding steps during the day. Easy to sync with your desktop, too.

5. Hitachi Magic Wand Massager

After a good work out a cool down is always recommended. The Hitachi Magic Wand is an excellent way to keep muscles loose and joints limber during the cool down phase of a good workout.

The Magic Wand is long enough to reach those hard-to-reach areas of the upper back and you direct the amount of pressure to deliver a relaxing, healthful massage to keep yourself fit in body, mind and soul.

So what are you waiting for? Time to move that thing. Today, fitness is fun, it’s targeted and it’s hooked up around your waist or in the living room.

Technology marches on. Do you?

I have no gadgets to add to this list – however I do want to give a shout out to the WII. There all are sorts of fun games to play (even as adults) that will get me up and out of this computer chair! Halla! Can’t wait to play Just Dance 2 on Christmas!
