TRX and Tyler Stewart

by workoutmommy on August 24, 2010

One of the best parts of fitness blogging is getting the opportunity to talk with professional athletes.  Last week I had the pleasure of talking with Tyler Stewart,  an amazing triathlete.

She told me that just 7 years ago she signed up for a triathlon on a dare, even though she hated swimming.   She is now a champion triathlete, including a 1st place finish and course record in the 2009 Ironman Coeur d’Alene!  This gives me hope that someday I will outgrow my fear of the pool and be able to just  finish a triathlon!

In addition to her training, she is also the owner of Wags, a successful dog grooming business.

I asked Tyler what advice she has for those who claim their lives are too busy for exercise.   Her answer was simple–everyone is juggling a lot of things in life, but it all comes down to priority.

Make fitness a priority.

Many triathletes train up to 30 hours per week for their sport whereas Tyler allots only 15 hours per week to her training regimen. As a business owner, that is really all the time she can spare so she makes sure to workout harder and smarter.

She schedules her workouts and gives them her all because she knows that her time is limited.  Tyler will be competing in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October.

She is an advocate of the TRX Training System and highly recommends suspension training.

Not sure what a TRX is?  Watch this great video clip by Todd Durkin that explains WHY you should be using a TRX in your fitness program.  (be ready to go out and buy one because you will be inspired!)

Have you tried the TRX yet?

The depths of my love for my TRX knows no bounds. Seriously. I love that thing. I’ve tried out a ton of fitness equipment and I have to say that the TRX makes my top 3 fave pieces ever. Love the tips from Tyler!

Awesome advice. You really do have to make it a priority. And you really should do a triathlon… you’ll love it! :)

I have been doing TRX for the past 3 months and love it. Recommend to anyone trying to complement a triathlon work out. I use it instead of weight lifting and works great. TRY IT!!!

I’ve been wanting to give TRX a go and they have them at my local gym. I think after this post I’m inspired to go ahead and go for it! Tyler is awesome btw. Looking forward to it!
