I have five weeks until the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon and this is what I learned this week:
I am essentially starting over from scratch and it is very humbling. Whereas I used to run 7 minute miles, now I am averaging 10.5 minute miles. It’s tough on my ego, but I’m trying to be kind to myself and just keep on moving.
I also have that issue with my foot (Hallux Rigidus) that despite surgery, new shoes (Saucony Triumph) and specialized orthotics, it still hurts. (not so much while I’m running, but definitely afterward. Unfortunately, I think this is my new reality. My foot will never be the same.)
I did manage to log some miles this week, so I’m considering it a success! I went on a longer run and then did two shorter workouts on my treadmill, one of which I had to do at 10pm. Not ideal, but essential. My motto right now (with 3 boys under the age of 5 in my house) is SWEAT=SANITY. I might have to get that made into a tshirt to keep me focused on my goal. 🙂
