There is a very fun video about babies and playpens (or play yards, pack-n-plays, etc). I know that I was a playpen baby –
my mom had eight kids so really she had no choice!
My kids however, were not big fans. They screamed and cried, no matter how many cool toys I put in there. For me though, it was the only time I could get a semi-decent workout done. I set them up next to the treadmill and would make silly faces, etc as I ran. (of course, this was back in the day when they were babies.) The playpen kept them safe and me somewhat sane.
One woman in the video has a very strong opinion against them though, which surprised me. How about you?
Do/did you make use of a playpen?

Oh my goodness! Just this past week I’ve started doing that! And as long as I sing to him and make funny faces, Cameron (10 months old) seems to be happy with it. Sometime she even falls asleep. My workouts are only for 45 minutes to an hour,so it’s not an unreasonable amount of time.
I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with playpens, unless someone was using it to neglect their child by leaving them in it all the time.
If I need to run upstairs to the toilet, rather than let my baby get into something (I have lots of kids so they often leave things lying around that he might choke on if I’m not around to prevent it), I pop in th eplaypen for a few minutes, just until I come back.

I’ve used mine many, many times when I need to know that my baby was safe from my toddler, while I cooked dinner, used the toilet, or what have you. I’ve heard them referred to as ‘baby jail’, but I think that’s reserved for parents who leave them in there all day, as opposed to the occasional user, for short bursts at a time.
I don’t use a playpen very often but they do certainly have their uses! For instance when we take a crawling one camping, I always bring the playpen. Can’t have them toddling off into the river or the fire! (Seriously what did our ancestors ever do to baby proof?!)

Until humans grow little pouches like kangaroos, I think the playpen will continue to be popular. It’s like anything else; as long as you don’t overdo it, it’s fine. And sometimes it’s a huge sanity saver!
Playpens rock! I mean where else am I going to store all my clean laundry?!
I’ve also used them for camping, definetly sleeping away from home, but yeah, at home it quickly becomes a crap catcher for us. Lol.

We had a playpen – the Pack n’ Play, but we only used it for SLEEPING. NEVER playing. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. We just never did. My mom, on the other hand, swears by it.

My son would jump up and down with me in his PP while i was on my rebounder.
I think they shouldn’t leave in playpen, it’s like stopping their mind to grow up
