KT Tape helps with the pain

by workoutmommy on September 5, 2009

Are you asking what on earth is KT Tape?  I did the same thing too!

KT Tape (Kinesiology Tape) has been used by athletes at every level for sore muscle pain and common injuries.   It isn’t just for elite athletes anymore though.  When I went to the chiropractor in January they used KT tape on my shoulder.  I didn’t notice a huge improvement, but then again it was just one application.

This time I have been using it on my aching lower back.  (Thanks baby #3!)  It has definitely made a noticeable difference and I think if you are someone who suffers from an injury or chronic pain it is worth a try.  It sure beats all the Tylenol and Advil I was taking!

So how does it work?  According to their website:

“By lifting the skin and relieving pressure on pain transmitters, KT Tape provides muscle-pain relief and support without restricting motion. KT Tape comes in convenient pre-cut strips and is available in a variety of colors. It provides 24-hour relief for up to five days per application and is water resistant, so it stays on in the pool & shower.

KT Tape provides relief for runner’s knee, tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, sprains, and general back and shoulder pain, as well as most muscle soreness or pain. All of these injuries respond well to treatment with KT Tape, allowing people to remain active while injured.”

If you are unsure of where exactly to place the tape for your ailment,  there are some great tutorial videos that show you exactly where/how to place the tape.  You can also follow KTTape on Twitter for advice and suggestions.

The tape is NOT expensive and can be found at Target, most sporting good stores and online through Amazon.

kttapeYou can even get KT Tape Kinesiology Athletic Tape in Pink!

Have you ever used KT tape before? If so, I’d love to know your thoughts!

Thanks for reading gang and I hope you have a FUN and ACTIVE weekend!

Disclosure: I received a sample of KT Tape at no charge to review, however I am under no obligation to do so nor to make the review positive. This review reflects my personal opinion about this product and how it has helped my aching back!

I’ve recently discovered KT Tape for some Achilles issues. I wouldn’t say I have tendinitis yet, but I’m heading down the dark road. It’s been a great help getting me through some tough workouts and long runs. My only complaint is that it doesn’t stand up as well as I’d like. It claims that it’s water proof, but I’ve run a few 20 mile runs and by the end it’s falling off. Also, I wish you could have the option of not having the split in the middle of the tape. I don’t need to split the tape and seems to lose some integrity with it there. Other than that, KT Tape is awesome! I really feel a difference when I use it.
