As I’ve said before, we are a Subway family! I love the healthy food choices they have for every member of my family and last week when we were on the road, we made sure to find one along our route.
Thanks to the Subway car kit, not only did we eat healthy but the kids were entertained as well! Subway has put together the perfect car kit for summer traveling. It includes an insulated lunch tote for all your healthy snacks, fun games and activities, and a $10 Subway gift card.
Although my kids are still a little too young to play the games in the car, we had a great time at the hotel with them, especially travel-Twister!
Want to win your own Subway car kit (valued at approximately $35-40) ?
I have one kit to give away to a lucky reader! To enter, please leave a comment with how you keep your kids entertained on long car trips. The winner will be chosen at random on Saturday, August 15th at 9pm EST. This contest is open to US addresses only.

Keeping my two-year-old entertained in the car has been easy for us. Our minivan came with a built in TV. So we make sure to bring 2-3 movie-length DVDs, such as A Shark Tale, Blues Musical Adventure, Finding Nemo, etc. She has her own headphones so she can listen to the films and we can still listen to music.
In addition, we bring loads of healthy, bite size snacks for her – like raisins, cheerios, a fiber bars.
This keeps her amused for around 3 hours. Then we get a break, get of the car and let her run around the rest stop, burning off some of that pent up energy. Then its back on the road.

i admit we use the dvd player OR some of their music, or books on tape. we also play I spy a whole bunch, or just ask them to find a white car, a blue car etc.

I need this! We are always driving between DC and Connecticut to see my family. I definitely pack lots of coloring, snacks, and some electronic toys (I’m pretty sure they’ll be getting Nintendo DS’s for Christmas this year) and, of course, the DVD player. But I make them wait until we’ve been in the car for at least 3 hours (about half way) before turning that on.
Sing songs! We will jam out to some tunes. My husband just detailed my car so no snacking for them in the car (unless it is a necessity) so I have to become more creative on how I entertain them. We will play silly games and talk funny ways to each other also.
Thanks for the chance!

Hhhmmm…. good question.
I usually keep my 34 yr old happy by bribing him with chips, pop and candy.
I also bring out his ‘travel’ toys… PSP, books, portable DVD player.
Then if he behaves we stop at McDonalds for a Happy Meal.

We don’t have a DVD player in our car much to our daughters disappointment but we play lots of games, sing lots of songs, talk a lot, and sleep.

Since my kids range from 7-15 we have to have a variety of things. Books, DVDs, DS video grames, lots of singing and trivia games for the older ones. Of course the ABC game and the license plate game. We are always stopping at the Subway too so and my little one loves Twister! If I don’t win I will have to see about getting one myself!

We have a DVD player, but my little girl prefers fun music, drawing pictures, and her Leapster. She also likes to just talk to Mom and Dad; she’s at the age (3-yrs) that she has TONS of questions. She will also just ask us to talk to her about something specific: her uncles, going on an airplane, our last trip to Disneyland, etc.
Snacks are also a must!!

We love sing-a-longs, “I Spy,” and musicals on the DVD player. On our trip across the country, we planned a fun historical stop every day. It was a hit.
We use the dual screen DVD player – but only for LONG road trips (usually to NY to see my fam). Otherwise, whilst in the car, the boyz usually just sing along with the radio.
(“Boom Boom Pow” is their latest fave)

Our kids are 3 and 1 and the longest car trip we’ve taken is to my parents’ home – 1 hour away. Thankfully, the little one sleeps most of the way if we arrange it around naptime. And kid song CDs usually keep the 3 year old entertained. We’re not ready to brave a longer trip yet!

We sing a lot in the car, listen to kids’ CDs, bring coloring books, and picture books. We also try to “time” our trips so that the toddler will hopefully take a nap…

We love Subway too…so proud of my girls too! When I say, ‘let’s go to McDonald’s,’ they cringe and ask for Subway, tee hee, yay for them! We bought our truck with the dvd player for trips but we rarely cut it on which I love. I think they’ve forgotten it’s there because they hardly ask to watch it, hahaha. We usually play the license plate game or count the cows, etc. The older one reads a lot and I got creative kits for the car that have bigger crayons and those markers that only work on certain paper. Oh and you know what I love for the car…is the magnadoodles that have the attached pens…even the baby likes that!

We have four young kids, so traveling anywhere can be quite exhausting. We have invented a game where everytime the kids see a telephone wire over the road they have to yell duck and everyone in the car ducks. If we go under a bridge, we need to all hold up the bridge by raising our arms up to the ceiling. We also do a lot of I Spy games and see which kid can be the first to spot a cow, horse, sign, windmill, etc . . . The kids love it and it helps to keep our sanity.
I can certainly see this travel pack coming in handy in the very near future
My son is six weeks old. He hits the bottle or looks in the mirror.
Really do not want the prize, just have not commented on your blog in some time! Hope all is well.
antijared: your comment cracked me up! sometimes I’d like to “hit the bottle” when taking long trips with my kids!
I like to take a cooler filled with snacks and juice. I also take children’s books on cd.
Thank you!

We watch videos, play car games, draw, play with toys, watch for wildlife.
I have yet to take my son on a long trip yet but he has been on an flight from england to the USA We kept him entertained with loads of different toys, once he would get bored of one we’d give him a new one. Then in between play would be snack time. It wasn’t as bad as i expected

I made some games to play in the car, like a list of pictures of farm animals they had to spot along the trip or different kinds of street signs or methods of transportation.
