As a kid, my birthday was for ME.
My party, my special dinner, my presents.
It wasn’t until I became a mother myself that I realized birthdays are more about Mom. A celebration for the woman who brought me into this world and nurtured and loved me, despite the fact that I was pretty much a brat. (yes, what comes around goes around. I am definitely getting a taste of my own medicine these days!)
Today is my birthday and I’m just filled with sadness that I can no longer celebrate with my mom. It really is HER day, not mine.
So I’m really not in the mood for cake or presents or any kind of celebration at all.
Instead, I’m getting in the car and driving to the beach for a few days with my family. They will all be getting extra hugs and love from me.
Will I be getting much exercise? Other than some leisurely strolls down the beach with two little ones, probably not. But that is okay because sometimes you just need to step back, re-evaluate, and take a break from it all.
and that’s just the birthday present that I need right now.
Have a great week gang.

hope you have a fantastic week and amazing birthday.
its so trite but something I SO BELIEVE: your mom is watching you and wanting you to live, embrace LIFE and be happy.
love,
Carla
Hope you are enjoying your birthday. As a mom of grown children, I have never felt that their birthday was about me. I enjoy the memory of their “birth” day but to me it has always been all about them. That is the day that we just appreciate and celebrate who they are now. Go out and have a blast and let everyone spoil you for a day.
Happy Birthday Lisa! I’m so sorry that your mom won’t be there to celebrate with you this year (although I think she is with you in spirit!). Hope you have a relaxing vacation!
Happy Birthday! What a great post and you are so right on. Just got back from vacation myself and it felt good just to relax.
Happy Birthday, Lisa! May your day be as special as you are and know that your mom is with you. It’s my mom’s b-day today too. Enjoy the beach and family time. Hugs to ya!
Enjoy some time to yourself and with your family! I also believe your mom is with you. (And I completely understand: Friday was my 40th, and my first without my dad. But I felt him with me. Still, it’s hard.)
Happy birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And it’s so true, what you said. I know your mom is watching over you all and & hope you have a great trip girly! Big hugs!

You too. I’m sorry your mom isn’t here to celebrate with you and so glad you have your family to spend the day with.
I’m really sorry we missed each other in Chicago. I missed so many people I wanted to meet, it was crazy!
