Fitness when you are far from home

by workoutmommy on July 22, 2009

DSC09861I’m heading out of town to stay in a hotel for the next 4 days so I have made a plan to ensure I stay ACTIVE during my trip.
Here it is:

1. I’m packing my workout clothes and running shoes.  These are the first items to go in my suitcase so I will have NO excuse!

2. I signed up for the Blogher 5k Run/Walk on Friday morning.  It starts very early in the morning but it will be worth it since I know I might not get another chance for a workout on Friday.  If I can get up and run/waddle my way through the course at 6:30 am then YOU CAN TOO!

3. Since I’m traveling light and cannot bring any of my favorite exercise equipment with me, my plan is to do a lot of body weight exercises right there in my hotel room.   (or in the hallways! Maybe you will join me?)   A combination of lunges, squats, push ups, and tricep dips can give you a great workout without needing any special equipment.   I’m also bringing my new Flip Video camera with me, so I will try to post an in-room workout video.  The hotel gym is a little pricey for my taste, so all of my workouts will be created by me!

4.  I will keep reminding myself that I FEEL better when I get daily exercise.   My mantra is always “Never underestimate the power of a workout”!

If you are going to Blogher, I hope you stop and say hi to me.  I promise to only make you do a few lunges! :)

If you are staying home, please leave me a comment and let me know how you plan to stay active this week.  I’d love to hear your tips!

Many thanks again to my Blogher sponsors: Vitamix, Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt, and Johnson’s Baby!

On my last trip away from home, I specifically put my running shoes and clothes in the suitcase. I only got one run in, but it was worth it. As for my workout at home, well, I stayed in bed today so I’ll need to make up for it tomorrow with a run. And I have a 5k race Saturday night.

When staying at a hotel, I do a stair workout. It works great because (sadly) few people take the stairs so I get alone time and all that jazz.

I’m not going to BlogHer b/c I’m headed to the beach for family vacation – so I have made a vow to myself that I will either walk for an hour each day or else run for a 1/2 hour. No excuses! (And hangovers be damned!)

Won’t be making it to BlogHer and I wanted to come down to the city to meet ya’ll again but it just won’t be happening. Hope you have a blast!

This week I’m still in the middle of the 30 Day Shred, only 8 more days to go and hubs and I went to Aqua Fit class on Monday and we’ll go workout tonight. Probably treadmill or elliptical. We’ll see!

Well, I’m not going to BlogHer, but I’m not going to be home either so I really needed this post. We leave Friday for vacation…I already have workout clothes on my packing list!

I hadn’t heard of Blogher… but now i know.

I write music for fitness and have over 1200 downloadable mp3 musical programs. I use them myself. I lost 100 pounds writing them.

Workout Mommy is a great resource for moms from what I can see.
