Melissa Joan Hart lost 42 pounds after the birth of her second son.
She did it by eating right and exercise and although she looks fantastic, I am so tired of the female “bikini body” stories!
Where are the cover stories of the men who have transformed their bodies—-in the opposite direction?
Like Val Kilmer?

or Russell Crowe?
or Matt Damon?

I’d like to see their transformation stories highlighted but oh yeah, they don’t have one. They have gotten older, had some kids, and spread out a bit. How come no one follows them around with a camera highlighting their every bite?
I used to enjoy reading the success stories but I just can’t take it anymore. Anyone else feel the same way?
(and don’t even get me started on the FEMALE stars that make the “Bikini Body” cover only to regain some weight a few years later!)

Yup. It’s getting old: bikini body diet, bikini body workouts, bikini body photos – there is just too much emphasis on looking flawless in a bikini. And the images and messages are EVERYWHERE! It’s not realistic, healthy or fair (especially considering that men aren’t held to the same standards)…

I agree. I am also sick and tired of all the magazine covers that scream that they have the secrets to a bikini body – in just SIX WEEKS.
Six weeks, my ass.
I still like the bikinis

AGREE! Double standard. I don’t want to see a man in a speedo (any man…well, maybe there are a few) but media has created such a stigma on women and it completely destroys how we see ourselves in the mirror.
I despise these stories. Melissa Joan Hart called her post-baby body “Horrifying.” Really? So the very same body that GREW YOUR CHILD is horrifying?
Huh.
Kirstie Alley wants to weigh 128, like she did 25 years ago. When she was in her 20’s, before having kids.
There was a great article on Huffington Post in which the authors said that models have a job; they’re supposed to look a certain way, and they get paid for it. We don’t get paid to do their job, so why should we look like they do? Heidi Klum looked amazing after giving birth, but she was being paid a lot of money to look that way. Until she knows how to do your job, why should you try to do hers?
And it is so true!
And, yes, men can get fat and old and still appear onscreen. Opposite women 20 years younger than them.
(Anyone remember the movie “Punchline?” Sally Field played a suburban mom who becomes a stand-up comic and the would-be romantic interest of Tom Hanks. 6 years later she played Tom Hanks’ MOTHER in “Forrest Gump.”)
The thing that really ticks me off about the Malissa Joan Hart article, is that they are saying she went from (an obviously intended to sound obese) 155 to (a perfect) 120, or whatever. I would kill to be 155 again, and I am the same height as her! What is wrong with having a bit of meat? As long as you are healthy, there is no reason to be a twig! And wait till she gains 10 pounds. Those same magazines praising her now will berate her for twice as long.
It’s so strange, isn’t it? Just shaking our heads…

Kathy–I so agree. Six weeks is just ridiculous!
Meagan-so very true. She obviously was not thinking when she declared herself “horrifying”. She also has the means to hire trainers and nannies so she can work on her body, which most of us “regular” folk do not!
Alyssa–yikes about Sally Field! I wonder how she felt about playing his mother?
Seriously!! I’m so glad you pointed this out! And for me, anyhow, reading celeb success stories just depresses me. Not that I want bad things for them, just that it reminds me of how much emphasis our society places on looks.
