oikos_6ozis not only delicious, but is helping to send me to BlogHer this summer!  Hooray!

What is Greek Yogurt and why should you be eating it?  Here is the lowdown from Stonyfield:

Called “yiaourti” in Greece, Greek yogurt is creamier than regular yogurt. Authentic Greek yogurt like ours owes its extra creaminess to a centuries-old straining process that removes the whey (liquid) from the yogurt.

For hundreds of years, Greeks have prized strained yogurt for its richness and creaminess, and because it makes a wonderful cooking ingredient that’s less likely to curdle when heated. Before the time of mechanical refrigeration, Greeks also knew that yogurt stayed fresh longer with the liquid strained off. Today we know that straining makes Greek yogurt richer in protein than regular yogurt, and lower in lactose.

Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt has 0% fat, just 90 calories per 5.3 oz.-serving*, twice the protein of regular yogurt, and fewer carbohydrates. Because it’s organic, our yogurt is also better for the earth. And we think it’s better for you, too.

So let’s recap:

  • it’s creamier, which for me is important. I love the creamy texture and so do my kids.
  • It is lower in lactose, so it is less likely to bother your stomach.
  • It has TWICE the protein as regular yogurt!  More bang for your buck!  Or really, more bang for your muscles!
  • With Zero fat and only 90 calories per serving, how can you resist?

Oikos is certified organic, made with milk from farms that don’t use toxic persistent chemicals and fertilizers, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones.  It is also the only organic yogurt among the leading brands of greek yogurt.

Flavors include blueberry, honey, vanilla, strawberry, or plain.  And guess what?  It has no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners, which mean no aspartame or sucralose!  (have a different brand of yogurt in your fridge right now?  Go and read the back of the container.  It’s a little frustrating, isn’t it?  You want to eat healthy but so many food items are filled with this junk!)

Have you tried Oikos Organic Yogurt from Stonyfield Farm yet?  If not, you are missing out!   Find out here where you can buy it in your area.

I’ll be the one wearing the baseball hat.  (again)  :)

My DH loves this stuff. I usually make my own yogurt (because it’s dead-simple, is cheaper, and doesn’t involve all those non-recycleable #5 containers) and have started using this as a base. Last batch I made I even strained to get my own greek-style yogurt. Yum! And less tangy than traditional plain yogurt.

    About Me

In my life before kids, I was a personal fitness trainer and self proclaimed fitness junkie. I loved the 5am workouts and evening strength training sessions. Now that I'm a mom, my life is filled with 5am feedings and piles of laundry. I've let my fitness slip and this blog will hopefully provide motivation to help myself (and YOU!) get back in shape. I want to be fit, be healthy, and be happy! No more excuses....it's time to workout mommy!
