This summer, Crayola is encouraging children to let their imaginations run wild with a nationwide wellness campaign called the “Crayola Outdoor Challenge.” The initiative is aimed at inspiring families to spend more time outside exercising their bodies and minds.
Instead of sitting at a table coloring with your kids, take them outside and get their creative minds and bodies moving!
Here are some of the ways we used our new Crayola Sidewalk Crayons for exercise, learning, and fun!
- Number lunges: After writing the numbers 1-10 on the driveway, we did lunges up and down the numbers as we counted out loud. My sons, (yes, even my little one is lunging now), thought this was so much fun and my legs got a fantastic workout!
- Hopscotch: Keeping those same numbers, we created our own version of hopscotch. Hopping on one leg not only burns calories, but also helps build better balance.
- Name games: We spelled our names and then hopped from name to name. After that we ran name to name, and then marched, walked, skipped, etc. It kept us moving and laughing the entire time.
There are so many different games you can make up that will get your whole family moving. (and sidewalk crayons are far better than chalk because they don’t leave that gross residue on your hands like chalk does!)
So please go and take the “Outdoor Challenge” Pledge and pledge to play every day!

We just moved to a house with a perfect driveway for sidewalk crayons. My 3 and 1 year old’s and I try to play outside everyday, and these fun products would bring new variety to our play.
My son would definitely use the 3d set to draw a fort setup or something along those lines. he’s very big into playing fort now especially with his dad.
This is a great post, dear. I am really missing being outside now that I’m working full-time and it’s summer. We have a nice place for sidewalk chalk but not a ton of room. We would definitely do a jumping game and possible walking to and from letters/numbers. I can see them being excited to jump on a letter that they recognize! Thanks for doing this.

I like the idea of the 3d chalk. We love Crayola products. Have you been to the Crayola Crayon Factory? You should go!

Sidewalk chalk is one of those things we buy every single summer. My kids would draw crazy mazes on the group and time each other while they ran through them.

E and I have been busy with our sidewalk chalk already – drawing pictures and playing hopscotch. We’d put all those lovely crayola products to good use in our court cause we love to play outside!
we could use the rake to draw different paths for each kid to follow and make up different animal walks for them to do up and down their line.

My kids LOVE riding their scooters and I see them using these products to draw obstacle courses down our driveway to scoot or even possibly bike through/around their drawings. We also just saw the movie Monsters V. Aliens and they are completely excited about 3-D things, so to get the 3-D chalk would be very exciting to add to the obstacle courses. They also love hopscotch!
We would set up obstacle courses around the driveway. Our driveway is huge so it works great. The kids get on bikes, scooters and feet and race through the course.
Mikayla just asked last night for sidewalk chalk. We just moved houses and I told her that she will have to wait until I unpack the rest of the boxes because I think we have some. Mikayla would love to do hopscotch with the chalk!
My 4yo would KILL for a Rainbow Rake. We’ve been spending so much time on our back patio that the Sidewalk Crayons we have are quickly being used up. We MUST play hopscotch!!

My son would create using the 3D Jungle Safari Activity set a jungle in our backyard. He takes his dinosaur “bones” and hides them and if we had the Safari set his father and him and I could create a new world for him to have his adventures in.
i love the hopscotch idea, how fun!
I would give the items to my daughter’s daycare and use it with them. I would develop a program so they could help create a fitness program with fun for grade schoolers. They get outside and also do art/crafts several times a day but they don’t mix the two or have a structured “exercise” plan.

Our block has a group of kids and parents who are in training for the local Annie Ryan Fun Run 5K and 1 mile dash. My two kids would use the cool products from Crayola to decorate along the “course” (aka our block) to help cheer on and motivate the runners. After the decorating is complete we’ll all jump in to join the in on the training.
Our outdoor fitness fun would be using the Crayola on our freshly blacktopped driveway and then running away FAST once Hubby sees all the sidewalk chalk on his preh-shush new driveway! Heh.
