Down but not out

by workoutmommy on April 13, 2009

Thank you so much for all your thoughtful emails, tweets, and Facebook comments.

I am having a hard time finding my blogging and workout mojo these days.  It’s been two weeks since my mom died and I just cannot seem to pull myself together.

Since I am pretty sure that my mother would not want me to give up on this blog, (she came with me to BlogHer last summer and had been one of my biggest blog supporters), I promise to come back very soon.

I have a few guest posts to share and I’m always happy to accept more. (hint, hint)

As far as my own personal fitness, I feel like I am starting all over again.  I have spent the better part of two weeks drowning my pain in every piece of comfort food that I could find.     I have gone running a few times but for the most part, I have thrown fitness to the wayside and I feel like crap.  (both mentally and physically). I need to brush off the cookie crumbs, lace up my shoes, and get back to fitness.

First and foremost, my heart has been with you and your family. I think of you often as we’ve gone about our days.

As for your blog, you have always been such an inspiration to me – ever since I *knew* about blogs and started to follow yours. It seems that as your healing process begins, you will start to feel like blogging again. What is it that you always say? “Have you been active today?” ;-) xo

Be patient with yourself, your health won’t fall apart in a few weeks. You’re doing what you need to do right now to get through an enormous heartbreak. We’re all in your corner and hoping for the best for you.

Hang in there. You have been an inspiration to me and so many others, and you deserve your own attention right now. In some weird way, this experience will make you better. You will take all of the pieces of your Mom that are what make you-you, and you will use all of that to go on. Through you and all of the lives that she touched, she will live on. Your writing, your parenting, your workouts will all be more meaningful when you come back up after your grieving. You will be able to show others going through similar difficulties that living a positive and healthy life is possible, and necessary and helps us through the toughest of times. Love and light to you.

Okay, you are usually my movivation…but what can I do now to motivate you to be active? You are an inspiration to us all & you deserve to take your break from blogging, etc. and please do eat comfort food. You aren’t going to fall apart in a couple of weeks. Always in my thoughts ;-) Lunch tomorrow (or today)?

Jamie :-)

Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back on track as best you can. It will take a very long time to deal with the sad loss of your mother, especially as it was so sudden. Allow yourself to grieve.

Be patient with yourself, but try and lace up those shoes and get moving – you know it will help, a little.

If you need any guest posts, I’d be happy to help!

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

Lisa, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been thinking of you these past few weeks.

It’s good to see you “back” in the blogosphere, but take as much time as you need…we’ll all be waiting when you’re ready to return.

And I’ll do my best to rack my “postpartum brain” for a guest blog post… :)

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. It’s a terrible thing to go through but I know you will come out on top.

Take the time you need. The workouts will wait (although they may help you with the grieving process too).

You are strong. Know that we are here for you.

Lisa:
I was so sad to hear about your mom. I lost my dad almost 6 years ago but I remember like yesterday that numbing sort of pain that eats away at you. Hang in there. You already sound like you’re coming out of the darkmess a bit. I’m happy to gues post for you. I can even share the Subway WE CAN wisdom with your readers if you like. Just let me know when.

When I lost my dad I struggled with the same thing. I was (and am) seeing a therapist, and she stressed the importance of being kind to myself and cutting myself a little slack. That it’s normal to reach for comfort food, and it’s OK.
So be gentle with yourself, and take care of yourself!!!!!

My Mom passed away from cancer recently also, Know how hard it is to continue the things you enjoyed together. My heart goes out to you. I still find it hard some days. Sometime just hearing others are traveling along that road also, helps us to know we are not alone.
