Want it? Win it! Wordlock padlocks

by workoutmommy on March 21, 2009

*****this contest is now closed*****

padlockWhen I need to use a padlock at the gym, I flashback to seventh grade and desperately trying to remember my gym locker combination before the next class started.   Life would have been much less stressful had Wordlock been around back in the day.

Wordlock’s motto is: Easy to Set • Never Forget.™

It was created by Todd and Rahn Basche when no one in their family could remember the many numerical combinations on padlocks around their house. The patented algorithm of Wordlock creates thousands of 4 and 5 letter words, although you are not able to create any of your favorite swear words. (the only drawback I found!)

Prior to creating Wordlock, Mr. Basche was VP Software Applications at Apple where he was responsible for Itunes, the Music Store, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD.   This fact alone, makes me a huge fan of his!

Here are some more details about Wordlock products:

* Wordlock padlocks are available is red, pink, black and silver
* The locks offer up 100,000 possible letter and word combos
* Very inexpensive, only $9.99
* They are available at Target, Walgreens, Sears and Kmart, as well as online at Amazon.com

The lock was very easy to use  and I like the fact that I can change the combination word often.

Want to win your own? I have one padlock and one bike lock to give away!
Enter to win by leaving a comment below telling us a gym locker  story. (If you don’t have your own story, just make one up!)

Winners will be chosen at random on Thursday, 3/26 @ 10pm EST.
This contest is open to US addresses only.

Have an ACTIVE weekend gang!

i go to a gym at a community center, a place that is also part of a middle school. yes, we share the gym with the middle schoolers on weekdays, which can be a little hairy when they’re running laps. anyway, the locker room isn’t exactly posh as you might imagine. i’m a creature of habit, and i go to the same exact locker (think: high school gym locker) every time i go. i’ve started to consider it “my” locker, completely forgetting that others probably use it, too.

one day, i showed up and there was a mint in my locker. whoa, i thought. are they trying to upgrade the place? ;-)

but then, i remembered the middle schoolers and figured something probably dropped out of someone’s school pack ;-)

ah well. a girl can dream.

I was in the lockerroom the first day of sixth grade, and started changing before gym class started. everyone just stared at me. Finally, one of my friends explained that the reason everyone either changed into gym shirts with a tank top underneath or in the bathroom stalls was because no one had developed yet… no one except for me! (which even I had not realized yet!) talk about embarassing, i just thought i was fat!

Do you want me to bring up the nasty hot pink STIRRUP spandex pants that I used to wear in gym class… and stuff into my locker every day. I was super stylin’.

In middle school, I changed in the bathroom stall everyday (especially when we were having our curriculum that covered the pool). Until the day I walked out and discovered that my friend Ann was buck naked and changing into her swimsuit IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOCKER ROOM! WHERE EVERYONE COULD SEE HER!

I asked her what the hell she was thinking and she said that we all had the same parts and that she didn’t see a need to be embarassed about it.

From then on, I stopped changing in the stall. Eventually everyone else did, too.

I don’t have any good gym locker stories! Only that mine is a lifesaver because I keep spare everything in there… nothing like getting ready and realizing I forgot something like my bra.

:) This topic makes me smile.

I had just gotten my hubby a new gym bag and lock for the gym, as he recently started working out with me. He was so proud of his new stuff! One day after our workout I was waiting for him outside the locker room waiting…and waiting…until he sheepishly came out and told me he forgot his combination :) He said he was so embarassed because all the big muscular men in the locker room could see him failing with the lock. He went in to try again but finally had to go to the front desk to have the manager get the huge cutters to cut the lock off! Talk about a walk of shame…It was so hilarious…embarassing for him, but hilarious!

When I was in junior high, I was always very self-conscious about showering in the locker room. One day, I was in the shower when I noticed some movement at the windows that were very high up (almost on the roof). I figured it was probably a bird, but some of the other girls noticed it too and, being dressed already, they ran out to check.

The movement had been made by a group of boys who had nicked the ladder from the custodian’s work-room and climbed up to be peeping toms on us girls in the locker room! They hadn’t all fit on the ladder and so were wobbly at best up there.

Looking back at that all of these years later, I just wonder what their parents felt when they were informed of their sons’ transgressions.

How about a gym locker in which someone spit a loogy into.

Imagine opening a locker to find a yellow-brown, wet, and gooey substance in it.

GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!

I have been a gym rat ever since I can remember. My most embarrassing locker story was the time I forgot about a tuna sandwich I left in my gym locker before spring break. The first day back everyone around my locker was like “ooh what’s that smell”? It became clear when I opened my locker that it was mine! Yuck!

I always hated having to change in the gym locker room in school. I thought it was cruel to force shy kids to do that.

have you ever forgot your combo? well I did during hs and had to wait for the locker area to clear out so the janitor could come with bolt cutters and cut it off..embarrassing- I took the lock home and was fiddling with it and then it worked- ok broken but worked same combo I was using- tumblers make mistakes too

My gym locker story was in High School. I had been out of school for over 2 weeks with Pneumonia. When I came back I had actually forgotten many things, including my hall locker and yes my gym locker combinations. We were suppose to dress out for gym. I couldn’t open my locker to get to my gym clothes, so my teacher let me do gym in the pants I was in. Big mistake. I had gained some weight when I was laying around being sick, so my pants were alittle too tight. Well, to make a long story short, I split my private areas on my pants wide open and everyone could see the ugly ratty, but comfortable underwear I was wearing. I was mortified. It’s hard when you’re a teen and you already have all these self image problems going on because of zit break-outs etc.. Well, the gym teacher was cool. She called my mom, who brought me more clothes to finish out the day. Yet, the kids didn’t forget. I got razzed for about a whole horrible month about my rip roaring ugly duckling underwear. Parts of this story were mildly embellished to be amusing.

What a great idea!!!! I ALWAYS forget my locker combos.
When I was in high school, our dog got sprayed by a skunk. the smell permeated EVERYTHING! It was the middle of winter (of course), and I wore my coat to school, thinking it had escaped the scent. At the end of the day, I opened my locker, and everyone in the hallway was saying “What smells like skunk? Is there a skunk in here?” Even some teachers were coming out of their classrooms to find the source of the stench.
I casually walked/ran out of the building and took my coat immediately to the dry cleaners!

Haven’t had a gym locker since high school and we won’t say how many years ago that was. Only one I can remember was when a neighboring schools wrestling team ended up getting snowed in at our school(no one from our school was snowed in, mind you) and some people were looking in some lockers that weren’t locked and found some strange things.

My daughter lost calculator and money in the school gym lockers. The combinations on the main lockers are changed but the gym lockers are too few and shared. Even if you get your stuff in a locker, the security is iffy. Class schedules are too tight to return to main locker. I like the idea of a word combination for the kids use.

I once had to participate in gym wearing a pair of leg warmers and a mini skirt because I couldn’t remember my stupid locker combo. So embarassing.

I once was so frustrated trying to open my lock because I was already late for class that I was kicking the locker and swearing when I hear “Hey, what are you doing to my locker”. I was in the wrong aisle which of course meant the wrong locker and wrong lock. Talk about embarrassing!

This is a great idea because I once forgot the numbers to my combination locker in the nude with no one around and I forgot my room number of my hotel room because I had just checkec in. Then I relaxed and remembered the number but a special word is easy to remember.

I bought a bag specifically to carry to the gym and it does not fit in the small lockers. I had to wait until someone left to use the larger size locker that costs a quarter to use.

I’m 38 and still have bad dreams sometimes that I am in High School and cannot remember my locker combination!!! This would have been a much nicer (and easier) way for a lot of kids. My 2 teenage sons crrently do not have locks because they can’t remember the numbers. And they lose it even when written down. So I keep having to replace bookbags during the year since they will carry all of their books in them. This would be a wonderful win!

The favorite thing of the boys in school was to turn the lockers upside down which wasn’t so bad unless someone had cookery that day and then it would be eggs and flour everywhere

Someone set our block of gym lockers on fire when I was in high school. On the bright side, all I lost was a pair of gym shorts, and we got half the day off while the firefighters cleared the school. On the downside, the showers were damaged and didn’t get repaired till after I graduated.

Yeah, I went to a nice school…

My story involves the gym-type locker at my last place of employment. It was a TV station, so I had recordings of some of my shows in there, a change of clothes, a plastic container with candy in it… and I didn’t go into the locker very often. When my time at the station was winding down, I sort of remembered the combination, but no matter what I tried – left turn first, right turn first, spin the dial to clear it, start over – it wouldn’t open. I finally had to bring a lock cutter to retrieve my belongings. The Wordlock definitely would have been useful!

My worst gym story was when I forgot the combination to my gym locker. I was utterly embarrassed. I had to have the trainer guy in the front desk cut the lock off. Luckily they are use to doing this kind of stuff. This wordlock would definately come in handy.

I’m super paranoid about someone breaking into my gym locker, so the Word Lock would be perfect for me. Several years ago, I was exhausted after a workout and it took me nearly five minutes to remember my numerical combiation. Never again! The Word Lock would solve that problem!

Once I went to the gym and when I went to change back into my clothes, my shoes were gone and someone elses were there. What was bad is that my shoes were high heels…the shoes left in their place were men’s oxfords.
