Getting up on my soap box

by workoutmommy on February 6, 2009

There is nothing more important than your health.
NOTHING.

So please, make the time for YOU.
Take care of your body by getting regular exercise and eating healthy foods.

You only get one YOU, so why not take care of it the best that you can?
Do it for you, your family, your dog, your mailman, or whatever motivates you.
Just get it done.
Now is a good time to start, don’t you think?

Hi Lisa,
This is a good soap box to get up on! We can’t hear this too much! If we don’t have our health, if we’re not taking care of ourselves, what kind of condition will we be in for those we’re around, and what quality of life will we live? Thank you for getting up there Lisa!

I agree with Lance. So many people waste their whole life and end up shortening it and that of their families by eating crap and not moving. I know because up until last year, I was one of them. You get in that denial mode and unfortunately no one can tell you anything. The change comes from within and something just clicks. But we all still need the kick in our booties sometime :)

Got my 30-minute walk in today. Time for a little weights and yoga too… if kids cooperate! I’m off!

This is so incredibly true. So many people prioritize the wrong things.

So true! Sometimes we think we’re being selfish if we take the time to go work out, or to have a good, healthy meal, or what have you. But if we don’t take care of ourselves, how will we be able to take care of those who are important to us? And the people who love us want us to stick around!

A couple weeks ago I did a flow chart at Cranky Fitness, the gist of which was that if you’re not injured you should work out.
Someone took exception to it (on a different blog). They were upset because “after working long hours, you want to come home and have a hobby or a life or something.” I do not get that attitude.
Me, I work 10 hours a day and no hobby is worth more than my health, which also helps prolong my life.

When we take care of ourselves, we’re so much more capable of taking care of others, too.

Very well said. Thanks! Some people don’t realize until it’s too late that we only get one body to take care of. That second chance doesn’t always come.
