I love Gabrielle Reece for many reasons but mainly because she “gets” it. She understands that we might not have several hours a day to devote to the gym (a la Gwyenth Paltrow) and that we NEED to have time for ourselves. It is not selfish, it is necessary!
She has an awesome website called The Honey Line where she shares all kinds of tips, ideas, and workouts. She, along with personal trainer Mike Monroe, have created Train 360, a daily program of 30 minute online workout videos. Gabby says that Train 360 is:
a way to say to people ‘We understand that you don’t have time, and you don’t know what to do, or don’t have room at your house to workout. We want to break down those barriers.”
Gabby was kind enough to answer some of my questions again (see my first interview with her here).
Q: What advice do you have for moms who really need help with their diet? One reader says that her diet consists of quick, convenient, packaged food and that she has no desire to eat fruits or vegetables. She WANTS to eat better, but doesn’t even know where to start.
Gabby: All great eating begins with baby steps and breakfast. First rule of thumb to being on your way to eating better is to NOT SKIP BREAKFAST. It’s proven that you have will have less of a chance of over eating if you eat breakfast. Eggs, sprouted toast, fruit, oatmeal, avocado on toast, a nutritionally loaded smoothie or a ground turkey egg scramble. Eat something. For the basics on the rest of the day avoid sugary drinks and stick to water. When and where you can stay away from wheat products (pasta, bread, cookies, cakes and all things baked with flour) and too much white sugar. Mind your portions and only eat until you feel full. The minute stress hits find a quick substitute for reaching for chocolate or other yummy snacks to calm yourself. Go for a walk or even throw a piece of gum in your mouth.
Q: What is your go-to exercise? Something that you will do if crunched for time and still can get results?
Gabby: When I don’t have a lot of time to exercise (which is a lot of the time) I do a mini circuit. I combine 3 or 4 all over body moves and do them non stop 3 time thru. I will do about 10-15 reps and this only takes 15 minutes if I keep it moving. For those of you cardio lovers get on your favorite machine but once you are warmed up do a 15 to 20 second sprint on every minute. This will help you get more out of the time you do have to exercise.
Q: Any advice for moms who do not have supportive husbands? Those with husbands that bring home all the junk food and then discourage time for mom to get out and exercise?
Gabby: If you have to LAY DOWN THE LAW with every person in your life that you will unapologetically take your exercise time when you can, then do it. Don’t be emotional or defensive with a husband. Just be organized, make sure everyone is taken care of, smile, and go get it done. If he is bringing home lots of naughty snack food then serve it to him. I get a great satisfaction just handling the food and not having to eat it. Make sure you fill up on the good stuff and if you have to just take a nibble of his. Remind yourself that you are choosing not to eat the food, and not that you can’t. You have a goal to reach and you are on a mission.
Q: What are some pieces of exercise equipment that you recommend for moms to have at home?
Gabby: A few pairs of dumbbells (2, 5, and 10 lbs should be enough for most of you), and an exercise ball is a really great place to start on your equipment collection. You need to learn what to do and how to exercise more than you need a ton of equipment to do it. The hardest thing to move is your own body.
Thank you again Gabby for being a role model for women everywhere!

I have something in common with a lot of busy working moms, I do eat what is convenient. I can honestly say it is not the best choices as I do not feel energized after eating and I think it is time to put aside 30-60 minutes a day for me!
Thanks for the inspiration.
