I’m a huncher. I often look like this:

So when I read about the iPosture in Shape Magazine, I decided to give it a try.
The iPosture is:
an intuitive electronic device designed to improve posture. Just over one inch in diameter, the iPosture automatically senses when the body slouches, and it alerts the user with brief vibrations to correct it.
The iPosture is worn close to the skin of the chest (either directly on your skin or clipped on your clothes) and operates on a coin-size battery. When you first put it on, you “set” your correct posture. If you slouch for more than a minute, the iPosture will alert you with a quick vibration. If you do not correct your posture within a minute after the first alert, it will then alert you with two vibrations.
I knew that I have a tendency to slouch, but I had no idea how often. When I first started to wear the iPosture, I got alerts every single minute! After the first day, I began to really focus on sitting up straight and training my body to use correct posture. I was able to anticipate a vibration and therefore became more aware of my own slouching. It became a game of how I could “beat the buzz” and it worked! Since wearing the iPosture, I have noticed a big improvement in my posture and body awareness.
Guess what? I have one iPosture to giveaway to you! To enter, please leave a comment here with your best good posture tip or exercise. The winner will be chosen at random on Sunday, January 25 at 9pm EST. Winner must provide a valid US mailing address.
So sit up tall and enter now!

Interesting! I bet it would go off all the time for me. I used to get chased around my friend’s kitchen table by her brother, his shoulders hunched, because this is how I walked around! I’m better now (my tip: have some people follow you around all hunched over lol-just kidding!)but I have issues at the computer. I make sure I stop and stretch frequently, which makes me recognize I’m hunched over, and I do a lot of open chest yoga poses as well, shoulders back, top half of body up, deep breathing, which really, really helps.

I need this. My tip is “Keep your chin up with your head erect and held back.”

I am a bit of a huncher myself. I use the technique to pretend you have a string connected to the top of your head, pulling you up straight and tall. I also remind myself through the day to tighten my abs

I need this! I guess my best tip is to work on your back muscles and the abs as well.
Oh, I need this!! I’d say the best advice that I’d have (and I try to do regularly) is stretch the front of your chest by laying on a foam roller. It is much easier to have good posture without tightness! Pick me, pick me!!!
This sounds great!
After carrying around 3 kids on my hip I know I need this. I think push-ups are great for posture. Stretches the chest and works the back.
I totally need this thing. I find my chin is almost touching the desk when I sit at my computer for long stretches!
I used to sit on an exercise ball when I worked, which was helpful in the posture department. (Except I can’t at home because of the kiddos — they think it’s the greatest toy ever!)

I think this is a great product that would be really useful. I picture in my mind how I look & that helps me straighten up, even when no one is looking! Then BREATHE!
I love it! My advice… do something you can be proud of everyday. There is a reason they say ‘I’m walking tall’!
A good workout usually does that for me!
wow. this would be perfect for me. I broke my back about four years ago, so getting and keeping good posture is incredibly important to me.
I do pilates and core exercises to strengthen my back and hold me up in good posture!
This would be perfect for me. I always slouch
OOh I would love this. I slouch at the computer all the time. My advice is old school. Find a hard back book larger than your head and walk around balancing the book. 5 min. a day can really help your posture.
I TOTALLY want to win this, Lisa! I have no tips, but isn’t putting both feet on the floor (as opposed to crossing your legs) supposed to help with posture? If it does, then that’s my tip.

I am a sloucher. Even after spending 3 years in a back brace for scoliosis I slouch a lot. My teenage son is worse than me. I would have him use this if we won.

I am a huncher too! It really started to become a problem for me, I started having alot strain in my shoulder and neck muscles. So, I started looking for ways to improve my posture and i found this exercise. Shrug
Use a 5- to 15-pound dumbbell in each hand and stand with your feet about hip-width apart. With your arms at your sides, lift your shoulders toward your ears. Hold for 5 seconds, then lower. Repeat for 1 minute.
I have been doing it for 2 weeks. I also try to make sure I keep my chim up. I hope this is helpful. I would love to try the iposture-Thank you for the opportunity!
I totally feel like I have a hunchback because I have been slouching for years. I need this. Best Tip – wear an extra tight shirt with buttons that basically FORCES you to sit straight because if you don’t your belly budges so far forward that it pushes the buttons out and those buttons could seriously hurt someone when they POP Off of your shirt. Ahem. Or, just keep shoulder blades back.

I would love one of these. I have been going to the chiropractor for this issue for the past year. This would help out greatly!
This sounds so interesting. I know for me, the stronger my core is, the better posture I have all around.

This is exactly what I need! I too found that working on my core really helped with my posture.
I have a slouching problem big time!I have no tips, I need the tips. This will probably go off with me all the time.

What a cool device! And *way* better than hearing my grandmother’s voice in my head (“Sit up tall, young lady!”). LOL
I’m not going to enter since I just won the DVD’s.

The easiest way for me is to sit on a stability ball. Its hard to slouch on those. I don’t have one at work, and find myself mostly in a slouched position. Ouch!
My posture is ridiculously horrible. I think I’m hiding the tummy rolls under my shirt, but I know I would look better if I sat and stood tall. My best posture tip is to have a husband with good posture (like me) who constantly reminds you not to slouch!
This sounds like a great win for my younger sister. She has really bad posture even as a child.

Oops! I forgot the tip. Working the chest muscles help “push” back the tendency for our shoulders to round forward from computer use.

My posture is horrible. Horrible! I wish I had a tip, but I don’t. Can I sitll be entered, pretty please?

I’m not sure I have any good tips. Sometimes I sit on my exercise ball at my desk, but some how I still end up slouching. I’m thinking the iPosture would keep me in check!
THATS THE COOLEST THING IVE EVER HEARD. I have horrible posture. The best exercises are any kinds of rows, and practice, practice, practice! oh, and getting off this damn computer.

i call myself the hunchback….i am horrible. my only tips are the reminder to stand tall, like you have a steel pole holding you up in themiddle of your head and suck your belly button in to your spine. of course i do this maybe once a day, otherwise i am all hunched over. i need to win this.

I am at the computer about 16 hours a day for my job. Probably for me the best is keeping my feet flat on floor it seems to help force me to sit straight.

I wish I had a great posture tip, but I don’t– I really need this cool new porduct! THANKS for reviewing it!
PS: In case I really have to leave a tip, I have heard rolling your shoulders back alot works for many people, but I can never remember to do so! LOL

Oh I soooo need this…my posture needs work! My tip is to remember how bad your neck hurts when you slouch all day, that always helps me straighten up
Please pick me! I need to be hunchless!
I love the Wii Fit, it really helps my posture because I have to concentrate on my center of balance. This would be great too.
Playful Professionals last blog post..French Toast and Word Vomit
This is amazing! Ok, so honestly, I have not ONE tip on the good posture thing. That’s why I need this!
What a great give away and product! I usually try to do planks whenever I can. To do a basic plank all you need to do is start face down, trunk straight, supporting the weight of the body on your elbows and toes. Hold this position for 15-30 seconds. Works great since I don’t have a lot of time. Thank you!
i find sitting on an exercise ball while at the computer/desk helps me foucs on my posture…and then carries over to standing as well.
the best posture advice I ever received was from a kids movie. The queen of England was complaning about the poor psoture Americans have and then she demonstrated where the shoulders, head and nek should be. If the shoulders are severely back, the back and head will comfortably fall into place. So, just remember to thrust your shoulders back and you will be good to go!
Yes, I’m one of the many who need this, too. I’m thinking of myself as a dog with a shock collar on. Works for them, right?
I really like a pilates video I have that targets the back. It strengthens and increases awareness. I haven’t done it for a while though, so this is a good reminder.
Strange but true:
What I wear affects my posture. When you dress well, you naturally sit up taller. When you dress schlumpy, your body follows suit. So, dress well and stand tall.
I try to check myself throughout the day and “suck it in!” it reminds me to have good posture, too!
I so so so need this!
While at my desk at work I keep my feet flat on the floor, set my chair and keyboard so I am comfortable, and set my chair so it sits me up straight. I also concentrate on holding my abs tight and do “desk sit ups” hold abs tight for count of 10 then release and repeat.
My best posture tip is to work on strengthening your abs and back. Since I started lifting for my abs and back I can stand straighter. Yay gym!
This chronic sloucher would love to win!
