5 ways to keep warm, save money, and get fit!

by workoutmommy on January 19, 2009

blizzard nowWhen the winter weather has you down, here are five ways to keep  your spirits (and heart rate) up.

  1. Walking lunges:  These will firm your legs and glutes while keeping your entire body warm.
  2. Barbie Kicks: Stand tall and while walking, alternate kicking your legs up high.  Remember how Barbie’s legs didn’t bend?  Don’t let yours bend either.   After a few kicks, your hamstrings will be plenty warm!
  3. Push-ups combined with downward dog: Do 10 push-ups, then push back into downward dog for a count of 10.  Repeat 3-4 times.
  4. Jump rope: This is one of the cheapest (and easiest) forms of exercise around.  Just 5 minutes of jumping will heat you up and burn up some calories.
  5. Squat jumps: Squat down and then JUMP UP as high as you can.   Repeat 10 times and you will be peeling off a layer of clothing.   You’ll be so warm in fact, you’ll be eager to do them again!

Do these exercises (and more) and you won’t need to crank up that heat in your house.  You will save money on your heating bill and stay fit at the same time!

What is your best stay warm/stay fit tip?

I chase my boys up and down the hallway, then play with them and the exercise ball. I also just get out and go to the gym, it’s the only way i get a good intense workout in lately. The DVD’s just couldn’t cut it, and getting out feels so great =)

The way I stay warm? Moving from Massachusetts to California helped a lot, lol!
Today was an unseasonably warm day, even for us. We took the kids and the dog to run around on the beach.
(LOVE the Barbie kicks, btw!)
