HELP! Skinny jeans and bathing suits!

by workoutmommy on January 6, 2009

Remember these fabulous jeans I was going to wear on January 1?
Yeah, well….that didn’t happen.
I did a horrible job of sticking to healthy foods and I am now back to square one.

Now I have another goal on the horizon—my bathing suit!   I am going to Florida in six weeks where I will be expected to play in the pool with my kids. (I know, poor me, right?) The problem is that I am definitely not bathing suit ready.

Rocky road brownies , fresh from oven
Yes, I workout a lot, but the truth is I am a sugar addict and I need an Intervention!
Anyone have some advice for me?
Have you ever had to kick your nasty sugar habit and if so, HOW?

HELP!

I used to be a sugar and chocolate addicts. About two and a half years ago, I decided to lose the 5-10 pounds that always bugged me. I stopped eating chocolate, reduced the amount of carbs I ate, and began working out on a regular basis (instead of sporadically). I found that initially I craved chocolate, but the longer I went without it, the less I desired it. I have kept the ten pounds off since then. I do indulge occasionally, but as it is occasional, I don’t have cravings and can keep my weight in check.

Hmmm, that’s tough because everyone is so different. I’m also a sugar addict. And a ridiculous night time snacker. At night time, I’ve been keeping things under control by having a warm glass of chocolate milk and something crunchy yet satisfying like a handful of nuts.

My husband says I have all these silly Katie rules, and I think he might be right because during the day I just don’t eat junk food. I do eat. I can’t ever be hungry…I turn into a gremlin. I just, for some reason, feel like junk food is only for the night time. So I only eat it at night (a silly rule).

I do find when I keep the sugar under control I feel better. By better, I mean more satiated. I think it’s because I eat better foods.

Hi Lisa,I do have some ideas for you, I am a sugar addict and I mean it. I actually was just having this conversation this morning at the table with My hunni, he is a chewer, not of gum.I want sugar he wants the tabacco. His mother was here over the holidays and got snowed in for almost a month . She is the dream grandmother baking all you can imagine for everyone. The only bad part is that is was all done here at OUR house. NOT GOOD! I couldnt see one counter here for a month they were covered with cookies, brownies the best bars your mouth could savor. I could go on its tortures me completely, Im an emotional basket case when all that is around, plus I am a picker so I grab and run.
I am a trainer and have been for 20 years. I am also a nutritionist and raised my 4 children in the best healthful enviroment. The problem is I fell in love with a man that looks good no matter what he eats and is always buff even though he never lifts a weight ever. His mother loves to bake and she is the best Ill tell you. So every year at Christmas she bakes here. I gain 10 lbs and am in a whirlwind of emotional trauma. I want the sugar like a drug adict. Im fine till I taste it then I might as well dig a grave, Im done.

So this is what I do, I cleanse. We are actually on a 9 day right now its our 3 rd day. I cleanse regularly though almost once a week. No NOT a colon cleanse a cellular cleanse, I keep my body clean , I eat clean and I feed my kids clean. I do however cook other things for my hunni which is a meat and potatoes man with a dessert after. An all american man whos italian by the way, go figure! Hes cleansing with me now too, he will do that , at least it makes me feel better to know he does that often to help filter out the bad he does.

This is my sight. I have been doing this for 6 years. I have years of experience in cleansing , I had my large intestine taken out and was sick for years trying to find a way to get nutrition in my body, I was given this option and for me it was a differnt reason but it has by far saved me from my sugar addiction. I cleanse for 2 days while grandma is here and then eat sugar for 2 days and on and on through Christmas, so I dont get too fat. It doesnt help the emotional trauma of seeing cookies draped from counter to counter but it does help take away the craving and clear my system , of course to start again, I ONLY do the sugar attack when shes hear though. I DO NOT have that around on other times, for the simple fact. I CANT! My website is http://www.kemunro.isagenix.com. This is not so I can get you in and make money from you. I would love to be the one but Im telling you , its the best product there is and it takes away your cravings and makes you feel like a million bucks, its what I put all my clients on and I have lived it fully for 6 years and without it I dont know what I would feel like. I know I have an option when I eat bad and I do at times because I am a sugar addict. I need to know I have the tools to get back on track quick and I need to know I can be bad. I didnt get the addiction because I have will power and I wont get out with will power so my choices are different and I have also profected my own cookies, bars ect over the years for clients and mothers so that they can have healthy options for kids as well that are fun and sweet but not going to kill us.

Just take a look. my phone number is 253-310-6790 . I just another mother of 4 trying to make the world a healthier place. I found this to be my life preserver.

I have a bar of really good dark chocolate in my pantry. I have a square of it for dessert pretty much every night. For some reason, knowing that I can have that really good piece of chocolate keeps me from eating the other crap around my house. I also snack on Kashi Go Lean Crunch for a sweet(er) treat.

Also, we limit the amounts of crap we do have around the house. Other than some ice cream and Girl Scout cookies in the freezer, we don’t have much. The girls don’t need mass quantities of easily accessible sugar.

Take a picture of what you are about to eat. Just do it for one day. It’ll make you eat less junk for the one day and then tomorrow you’ll be feeling better and more able to take control.

I also fill up on apples and peanut butter to quench the cravings:D

I wish I had some brilliant insight to share, but that picture of brownies is really distracting me :(
Pasta Queen just wrote a post about her food addiction, and there are a lot of people commenting with suggestions, if that’s any help.
Hey… pass those brownies over here, that way there will be less temptation for you…

Maybe a big glass of chocolate milk when you get a sugar urge? Works for me :)

Here’s a thought. Could the problem all be in your head? It sounds to me like you have a mental image of yourself as someone ‘who just can’t resist sugar”. If you truly believe that right down to your core, it will be extremely difficult to change it. You need to change your “Mental Blueprint” before you can make any real progress on this. A good book to check out is “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz. I’m sure you can find it at your local library. Good Luck!

Don’t keep the things that you can’t stop eating in your house. Chocolate protein shakes and No Sugar added Fudgsicles give me my chocolate/sugar fix. Find something like that to enjoy so you don’t feel deprived.

I’ve got a bathing suit goal, too. A bikini by my birthday – gasp!

Hi Lisa,
From my experiences and lots that I’ve read often times incorporating more “sweet”,”expansive” foods into your diet in general will help to cur back on sugar cravings. so for instance trying to incorporate more ingredients like barley, quinoa, oatmeal, or millet as well as root veggies like sweet potatoes, winter sqaush, carrots, parsnips, etc.
I don’t know what your diet is like but often times trying to cut back on carbs throws your body out of balance and leads us to crave dessert and sweets.
I know a million different ideas can work for a million different people but I just thought I’d throw in my two cents:)!

I’m also addicted to sugar. I want to cut down, for my health, my waistline, and my teeth!
I recently hear about the resistance Muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. So if I resist dessert after one meal, it makes it a little bit easier to resist the next time. Bit by bit it gets stronger and stronger.

If I just limit myself to healthy sugars I can get myself less addicted gradually. It’s gotta be a gradual process though.

Oh I hear you. It’s easier for me when I just go without and get rid of my withdrawals. Like I did with smpking..cold turkey. But I do like me a nighttime dessert. Strawberries with a sugar free chocolate sause or whipped cream might curb a sweet tooth and be better. I don’t know how the clean diet feels about sugar free items though.

Hey girl. Right there with you on that. So far, I’ve read all your comments and I like the chocolate protein shake idea mixed with choc. almond milk. That would be yummy. I also keep dark choc. in house for that after dinner sweet. For me, it’s about what is around to eat. Just get rid of the crap, savor the really GOOD stuff and ditch the rest.

I have actually found that the more sugary foods I ate over the holidays the more I craved them and I also found that the normal healthier foods I eat on a regular basis didn’t taste as sweet as they used too. So my conclusion is that when most sugary foods are cut out we start to taste the natural sweetness in foods, and are also able to use less sweeteners of any sort. I also recently cut back on diet pop and cut out all other forms of fake sugars. I think there is definately truth to them interfering with weight loss/control.

My trainer recommended replacing my unhealthy habit with a healthy one.

Like…a chocolate protein shake..only make sure to make it with water. milk is loaded with sugar and calories.

Tylenol helps with the headaches for the first three days…if you get them like i do.
