Growing up, I did not come from an oatmeal family. I always thought it was bland and boring and never understood how people could eat it every single day. Now, however, I finally get it!
This morning I experienced the Quaker Oatmeal-palooza bar. Our breakfast included several different kinds of oatmeal that we could top with extras such as bananas, pineapples, blueberries, strawberries, cinnamon, nuts, yogurt, and even peanut butter.
Stephanie commented that “plain oatmeal is like a blank canvas”. I decorated my oatmeal canvas with a bunch of fruit, some yogurt, and a touch of cinnamon. I had a delicious and healthy breakfast that is easy to make at home and very cost-effective. (regular old fashioned oatmeal is only 22 cents per serving.)
What are you going to put on your oatmeal canvas today?
It’s not just breakfast anymore either. I’m learning many creative ways to incorporate heart healthy oats into my diet. Roni and Kath both have some fantastic oatmeal recipes on their blogs. Go check them out, but be warned, they WILL make you hungry!
Stay tuned for more updates from my Quaker Living Proof Weekend.….

Huge oatmeal fan here. One of my favorites, when time allows, is to peel and chop up a pear to cook with the oatmeal. Then add walnuts or pecans, brown sugar (always) and cinnamon. I always keep frozen blueberries on hand for my oatmeal, and my latest treat is adding dates and Craisins. My kids like to eat the “dinosaur egg” oatmeal Quaker had, but they’ll tell you they love “Mama’s oatmeal” too. Looks like you’re having a great time!

Very cool! I love PB and pumpkin in my oatmeal. But not together. That would probably be gross.

This is great — my husband loves oatmeal…I do NOT (unless there is plenty of brown sugar in it!) However, I need to get better about my breakfasts, so I’m going to try these different suggestions.

I love oatmeal. I think it is one of the few “American” food my mom let me eat when I was child. I am really glad that they came out with the 50% less sugar packages because before then I would have to mix a regular flavor one with a sugared one in order to get the taste right for me.
