This year, I am avoiding the temptation of Halloween candy by only buying candy I do not like. Right now it is sitting on my kitchen counter, just waiting for Friday night. This year, there will be no last minute trip to Target to refill the supply because I was too weak to resist.
How about you? Any tricks to avoid the sugar festival known as Halloween this year?

I actually bought all stuff I like…and I’m resolved this year to not eat it. I bought it on Sunday and I haven’t opened the bag yet so we are halfway there. Any leftovers will be handled once I see what I have to deal with. I may keep a couple in the house, but work them into my day when i’m able to plan for them.

Haven’t even bought any yet. Waiting till the last possible minute.

I give myself permission to indulge that night. I buy it that morning, anticipate opening it right when the knocking starts and don’t beat myself up about it. In years past, when I think too much, I become obsessed with it and end up eating more because I have felt like eating that first piece was a failure and that opened the flood gates. It doesn’t spiral into the next day, so something in that works for me

We totally lucked out this year. We have an out of town wedding Saturday, so we won’t be home on Halloween. Our kids are staying at Grandma & Grandpa’s, and will no doubt enjoy Halloween to its fullest. I have purchased no candy.
Otherwise, I’ve thought of ordering some sort of Oriental Trading Post trinkets instead of candy.

Ditto Lisa! I only bought candy that I am not tempted by! However, the problem arises when all of the treats start coming in from my kids bags of candy……I don’t know how to plan for the month after Halloween!!!
I usually give them a few days to indulge and then I send a boat load of candy in to work with my husband (but then secretly I keep a few treats around for myself)!! ^_*
Oh the holidays!!!!
I’ve set aside about five pieces of candy that is mine, and I so plan on indulging in it! It’s a splurge, but a splurge with some portion control.
I tell my wife, “do not buy any Snickers or Milky Way.”
Essentially, no chocolate bars.
And then I’m pretty much safe.
My whole philosophy is, if it’s not in the house, I can’t eat it.

Paul-I have to follow the same plan. if it’s in the house, I can find it!
Ugh. I bought stuff I liked and just this morning gave into the temptation for Raisinettes. 1 small bag. Now I will have to run farther at lunch tomake up for it.
Somehow I managed to luck out, I don’t like candy so I’m never tempted (now things like cake and donuts, that’s a whole other story). The programmer on the other hand, is a candy fiend, so I have to hide it from him, LOL.

My sister got chocolates (not to give out- just to eat) but I made sure she got one of the packs that has all chocolate I don’t like except for one kind. And even that one kind, its not my favourite. Besides, I’d rather eat something homebaked or similar. So if I’m tempted to eat the chocolate, instead I’m thinking I’ll bake something somewhat healthy, but if I really want it, then I’ll have it. I just want to be eating what I really enjoy!

This year, I will be buying candy for the trick-or-treaters on my way home from work on Friday night! Because if it’s not in the Trenches, I can’t eat it. (Otherwise, I have no will power to resist the siren song of chocolate.)

Whoa – you got something against Hot Tamales???
I’ve got a stash of good, dark chocolate in my pantry that I treat myself to a square or two of each day. Everytime I go to get a fun-sized bar of chocolate…I’m going to ask if it will taste better than the good stuff.
I’m also buying non-chocolate candy (which just doesn’t do it for me) sometime later this week.

Giving myself permission to eat it if I want it. I usually end up not wanting any. It’s only when I say I can’t have any that my inner rebel comes out and I scarf a handful of fun-size bars.
you know Im in…for the planned treat.

The only ‘trick’ I have is not to buy any of the Halloween candy until Friday afternoon LOL I will probably do the same and not buy much of anything that I like. But I might enjoy a treat or two. We’ll see.

I got the candy yesterday and bought candy I would want to eat. My intention is to practice moderation. Today I practiced by taking four little Hershey chocolate bars out, eating three and putting one back. yeah me. And yes, three strikes me as having great restraint! Tomorrow? We’ll see. What’s funny is that I tell my kids they can have ONE. If they had any idea I was downing even three they would be all over me!

Will buy my candy on Friday. Then not open it until the first trick or treater. Then at the end of the night, if I have any left, will leave it on my porch. Last, Friday nights are my splurge nights, so I can eat some of my daughters, but then back to normal on Sat. At least this is my plan. We’ll see if it works.

Great idea! I actually do this all the time (year round). I’m allergic to peanuts, so I always buy peanut better/peanut candies (peanut m&ms, etc.). Glad to see someone else is of the same mindset. Thought you might be interested in this book that I just read. It’s sorta geeky, but interesting: http://www.kathyruns.com/?p=75 Keep running… and good luck with the potty training (been keeping up with your twitter stream) Cheers – Kathy

Great blog! This is my first time to the site, I will be back for more!
I do the same. I buy Peppermint Patties, Mounds, Almond Joys and Whoppers. I would never ever eat one of those. When the kids come home we pick out the candy that is okay (in our house) for them. They keep lollipops mainly, and we each pick a few favorites for ourselves and the rest goes in the trash.
