Smashies are a smash hit!

by workoutmommy on October 16, 2008

Last month I won a free box of Smashies from Fat Fighter TV. They arrived fast and were an INSTANT hit with both of my kids. When the box was empty, they both broke into tears and cried for more!

Smashies is a new line of applesauce for kids. It is the first line of apple sauce that is organic and has no added sugar or HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup).

It comes packaged in pouches, which is a great idea for little hands and fingers. It also makes it highly portable–just throw one in a bag, stroller, or lunchbox and you have an instant snack. No utensils necessary!

Smashies are not yet available in stores but you can get a sample box online for just the cost of shipping and handling.

One lucky reader will get a free box courtesy of the kind people at Smashies! Leave a comment here telling me how many times you are going to exercise this week. The winner will be drawn at random on Saturday, October 18 at 9pm EST. Contest is open to US addresses only.

My goal for the week is 4 formal sessions at the gym (got 2 in already) plus daily stretching and abs!

I have bought lots of different kinds of organic non corn syrup applesauce. From Whole Foods or Santa Cruz to name a few. I am sure this is good, but there are others out there now. The packaging sounds unique though.

kg: yes, the packaging was definitely the plus for me. No spoons and no mess!

iws going to work out 5 days this week, but i woke up this morning and couldn’t move my neck! maybe it will be just 4!

i love this idea of no utensils– like a gogurt for applesauce (but without all that sugar the gogurts have which is why we don’t ever buy those)!

I am working out 6 days this week, one of which will be a half marathon. I can’t wait to try the Smashies!

I currently just buy plain unsweetened applesauce, though I would LOVE it if they had ones mixed with other fruit without all the stupid additives!

This week I have a half marathon on Sunday! So starting from today I’ll have four workouts. Would usually be more but we’re taking a break next week from running :D

Wow! I am inspired just reading these comments. I am hoping to do something active four times this week.

Thanks for the contest!

We LOVE applesauce here- it’s my kiddos favorites!! I am so glad they have come out with such healthy alternatives to the store brands. We have just begun making our own to save the kiddos the extra sugar that is added to them. This would be great for us.

We will hopefully make at least four workouts this week- we are down 2 lbs this month so far. :)

These would be so great for my daughter’s lunch! We love applesauce. Working out? Ugh. Ok. I’ll try to do 2 times before the week is out. Which will be a miracle, but I will try!

Since the week is almost over, I would like to workout every day. But a more realistic goal would be to get active most days of the week and squeeze in one more strength and cardio session.

i work out 6 days per week (i take tuesdays off when i go to weight watchers!)

my kids would love these applesauce portables and i’m thinking the cleanup would be much better than letting the 16 month old feed himself applesauce with a spoon.

I don’t know how it happened, exactly, but I will have worked out 10 hours this week.

Is it weird that I like applesauce more than my kids do?

When I was little, my grandma would ask me what I wanted to eat when I was with her. My answer was two folds, french fries and apple sauce…
But me wants to know how your recovery is going.

I’ve only read this post – but I love your blog!
I wish I could say I’m going to work out everyday this week, but since I have a sick kid who is staying home from school and a newborn, I’m going to be realistic and say I plan to take a 20 min walk every afternoon for the next week.
I’ve never seen smashies before but they look intriguing when you’re out and about. I second and third the votes for natural applesauce at home. yum!

I’ve never heard of Smashies but they look cool! We just started a new exercise club (by accident) over at my blog. I wrote about wanting to get into shape and then a bunch of people commented that they wanted to also and used good old peer pressure to have me organize it. Grr. Check it out, we start next week: http://halfasgoodasyou.com/?p=1530

Oddly enough I’m planning on making homemade apple sauce today with the left over apples we picked a while back. I’m not sure my kids will trust me enough to eat it. My last attempt at apple sauce failed miserably. The girls refused to help me because they said it stunk. It did stink. I discovered that the recipe called for apple cider, not cider vinegar. So, the pickled apple sauce didn’t go over to well. I think my kids would prefer Smashies.

Oh, but I have to divulge my workout plans first: Well this week I went to cycling class on Monday, ran/walked Tuesday, did yoga on Wed, lifted on Thursday, slept in today (there’s still hope for a walk later) and my weekend plans include another walk/run/lift on Saturday and yoga on Sunday. Whew!

These look really interesting. I love the fact that they have no added sugar and that they are so portable. It would be a pleasure to give them a try…my 2-year-old is a big fan of testing out new snacks! :)

tracy: congrats you are the winner! email me your mailing address and I’ll forward it on to the Smashies people. Thanks!

(and let’s figure out a way to get you moving again! Can you workout with your baby? Stroller, etc. Do you still belong to a gym?)
