As I have mentioned before, I have a serious foot injury that has kept me from running most of the summer. I can usually handle a quick 20 minute run before the pain takes over and I have to call it a day. There have been many days where I have thought to myself “why even bother at this point?” but there is just no point to that kind of negative thinking.
No, I’m not running the fall marathon that I signed up to do. (anyone need an entry?) I’m pretty bummed about it, but what can I do? I’m injured and need to adapt accordingly.
I’ve been focusing on kettlebell workouts, biking, and strength training. It has been fun but truthfully, I cannot wait to get back to running with the pack!
I want to lace up my shoes and go for a ten mile run.
I want to do interval workouts and work on speed training.
I want to cross the finish line of any distance race and hear the cheer of the crowd.
I need to run again. It is part of who I am. I have made the decision to go under the knife and have my foot repaired. I’m very nervous, but also eager to get back to pain-free ACTIVE living.
My surgery is scheduled for Friday, please keep your fingers crossed for me.
I will be out of commission for awhile, so until my foot heals it is YOUR job to be active FOR me!
What will “we” be doing today? Tell me all about it!

Good thoughts for your surgery. I narrowly avoided going under the knife recently myself, and am just now able to run again – so I know how frustrating it can be.
I know it will go well, and you’ll be up & running in no time.

Good luck with the surgery. It sounds like you have carefully weighed your decision. Being injured is so very frustrating, once you are recovered, it will be so much fun to resume running.
Thanks for being such an example of fitness! Keep us posted.

Sending you good wishes for Friday. I have had foot surgery in the past, both feet, one year apart so take it easy as you heal. Mine was for plantarfacitis (sp?)
Anyway, today we did 10 minutes on the Elliptical, 50 min. Turbo Kick class and 50 reps on the Ab Coaster *wink*

Sending hugs & prayers out for you, Lisa! I hope it is smooth sailing for you, and that you’ll be working out again in no time!
Good wishes to you. I am actually headed to physical therapy for an ITB injury that is keeping me from my fall marathon as well. It has been 9 weeks now and I am finally back up to and hour of running. I have done all kinds of cross training, and am actually really pleased with the strength and tone I have developed in areas that would not have been targeted by just running. So, I guess it is not all bad.
Best of luck in healing.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I know how hard it is to have to sit out on running because of an injury. Today, my run is dedicated to you.

Hey Lisa, what’s the scoop? How was the surgery? How much recovery time are you looking at?
I think this may be the best time of year for foot surgery for you. You can recuperate and be strong for the Spring and still do those Kettleballs to keep in shape before that.
Have you planned a victory race to test the new foot?
